Mark Bowman Obituary

Dr. Mark and Mrs. Robin Bowman

Dr. Mark Steven Bowman, 68, and his wife of 19 years, Robin Dixon Conway Bowman, 64, tragically passed away in a plane crash on Friday, March 14, 2025, while traveling to the Dominican Republic for their annual dental mission trip. This annual trip was dedicated to providing care for underserved communities and mentoring dental students from the University of Buffalo.

A celebration of their lives will be held on Wednesday, April 9, at 4 p.m., at Rock Springs Event Center.

Mark grew up in Hickory, NC, and graduated from Hickory High School. After serving in the U.S. Army, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from UNC-Charlotte. He then pursued his lifelong dream in dentistry at UNC-Chapel Hill, where he earned his DDS in 1986. Dr. Bowman began his career in Aurora, NC before settling in Greenville, where he practiced at Bowman, Padgett and Associates for over 30 years. He loved his office staff and strove to provide the best possible care to his patients. He was deeply committed to lifelong learning in his profession, advancing his knowledge through continuing education courses. He took great pride in his membership with Advanced Dental Implant Studies (ADIS) through the Atlanta Institute for Advanced Education, always striving to stay at the forefront of dental advancements.

Mark loved adventure. He had a passion for aviation and was a proud member of the Flying Dentists Association. He intensely loved his family and friends, enjoying time at the beach, fishing, and playing horseshoes. An avid DIYer, he was always working on a project around the house. He had a deep love for animals, especially his dogs, and his generosity touched everyone he met.

Robin, a Pitt County native, graduated from J.H. Rose High School where she was the Homecoming Queen of 1977. She built a successful career as a top producing realtor with Clark-Branch Realtors. She was an indescribable woman with endless talents – an artist, skilled seamstress, gardener, and entertainer. She had a special gift of bringing people together with an open house, open heart, and open arms. Most of all, she was devoted to her family. "Lovee," as her grandchildren called her, was always planning the next family get together. Her love for friends and family was endless. She and Mark were inseparable, finding joy in every moment they spent together, whether at home or traveling the world.

Mark and Robin were preceded in death by their parents, Bill and Ruby Bowman, Scott and Dorothy Dixon, and their beloved dog, Pookie.

Their legacy of love, service, generosity, and kindness will live on in the countless lives they touched.

They are survived by Mark's son, Alex Bowman; Robin's children, Ashley Conway and wife, Danielle, Scott Conway, and Anna Hamm and husband, Dillon; grandchildren, Callie, Brody, and Westin Conway, and Riley and London Hamm; Mark's brothers, Mike Bowman and wife Beth, and Don Bowman and wife Teresa; Robin's brother, Scotty Dixon; and their beloved dogs, Abi and Macey.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in Mark and Robin's Honor to either the Carteret County Humane Society or the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina.

I was so saddened to learn of this terrible tragedy for Mark and Robin. While a native of Hickory, I lived in Greenville for 8.5 years, and Mark was our dentist. My previous work with Mark's brother, Mike, and our shared hometown in Hickory provided a pleasant connection and some fun conversations. These two lovely, vibrant people will be missed a great deal. My condolences to all their family and loved ones. Godspeed!
