Peggy Fleming Obituary

Peggy Fleming

Peggy Yvonne Fleming, born on January 29,1931, died on August 1, 2024, at her home in Bethlehem. She was a lifelong resident of Hickory and a lifelong member of Corinth Reformed Church, which she attended and served faithfully for all of her 93 years. She served as a Sunday School teacher, Youth Advisor, Choir Member, and member of the Consistory.

Her employment included 65 years as Office Manager for Hickory Good Housekeeping Shop, Friday Realty and Boyd & Hassell Property Management, retiring at the age of 91. Peggy enjoyed a long and active life with her loving family and many, many friends. She loved traveling and photography. She had numbers of exhibits and shows, and often gave friends note cards made with her favorite photos. Peggy also built and played dulcimers with her mother, sister and nieces.

Peggy was one of a kind. She loved deeply and gave unconditionally of herself and her resources, all the while expecting nothing in return. She adored her family and often said, "I have the greatest friends in the world." Peggy's life simply represented love personified!

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Joseph Carl Fleming and Alice Ruth Sigmon Fleming Pierce; her step-father, William Earl Pierce, Sr.; her sister, Jo Ann Fleming Detter; and brother-in-law, Luke Detter; and long time friend, Doris B. Byrd.

Among those who will miss her dearly are her beloved niece and great-niece, Karan Detter Kirby and Shaleigh Scott; cousins, Charles and Jan Thornburg; many other cousins; her many dear friends; and lifelong friend with whom she lived for the last two years, Jo Anne Flick; and her four children, for whom she was always "Aunt Peggy."

A memorial service will be held at Corinth Reformed Church in Hickory, on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Lori Blocker officiating. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary following the service.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to Corinth Reformed Church or to Safe Harbor.

I never saw Peggy without a smile on her face. She was always complementary about my flute playing in church and it really helped calm my nerves to know how much she enjoyed it. She was a close friend to my mom for many years. We know she is at peace.

Peggy was my teacher at Friday Realty Company. She was patient and kind, and a good friend. I will always remember her.

Our family has many fond memories of Peggy, from our childhoods and recently. She worked at Friday Realty Company for many, many years and ran it like a well oiled machine. She was thoughtful, diligent, kind and always smiling. And she was so generous with her beautiful photos. Her photograph of our family is my favorite of all time. Thank you, Peggy.
