Polly Moore Obituary

Polly (Starnes) Moore

December 2, 1927 - September 6, 2025

Polly (Starnes) Moore, 97, of Hickory, formerly of Granite Falls, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 6, 2025.

Polly was born December 2, 1927, the middle child of Ora Della Bowman Starnes and Isaac Melton Starnes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Phillip Moore; her parents; and siblings, Carrie Odell Teague, Lucille S. Phillips, John Wesley Starnes, Nancy S. Fox-Farmer, Isaac Landon Starnes, and Robert Lee Starnes.

Polly married Glenn December 4, 1945. They enjoyed almost 70 years together before Glenn's passing in 2016. She is survived by their two daughters, Lannie M. Hackler (James), Tanya M. Reid (Harrison); four grandchildren, P. Scott McDade, Jennifer M. Lunt (Meehan), Jacob H. Reid (Jessica), Isaac G. Reid; and six great-grandchildren.

Polly was a lifelong faithful and active member of Grace Chapel Global Methodist Church. In her early years, she served in several capacities of weekly church life. She was a member of the women's circle, served as a delegate to the annual conference, handled the ordering of the Sunday School literature, and was a member of the High-Nooners.

Polly attended Lenoir-Rhyne College for one year before going to work at Burlington Mills in Rhodhiss. She spent most of her career in banking. She joined First Savings and Loan (later became BB&T) in 1963 as a teller and was ultimately promoted to savings officer. She retired in 1986.

Before declining health, Polly was an avid bridge player, enjoyed line dancing (especially being part of a group visiting nursing homes), baking pies and delivering them to members of her church and to employees at businesses she frequented. She was a most talented and accomplished seamstress as she made all her daughters' clothes when they were young. She also did needlepoint and painted, leaving many cherished items for her family to enjoy.

The family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m., at Grace Chapel Global Methodist Church on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, with the service following at 11:30 a.m. Rev Mitch Wilson and Rev Phillip Hefner will officiate. Interment will follow in the Grace Chapel Global Methodist Church Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Glenn.

The family wishes to thank the many faithful caregivers who made sure mother's last years were enjoyable and productive. We will forever be grateful for their love, compassion, dedication, and exceptional care they provided her. We also want to thank those from Carolina Caring who personally cared for mother. They were remarkable. Their professionalism and concern were always evident and exceeded our expectations.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Grace Chapel Global Methodist Church at 4336 Grace Chapel Road, Granite Falls, NC 28630 or Carolina Caring at 3975 Robinson Rd. Newton, NC. 28658.
