Richard Allred Obituary

Richard Holton Allred

June 27, 1954 - March 8, 2024

Richard Holton Allred, 69, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2024, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, North Carolina.

Rick was born in Raleigh on June 27, 1954, to June and James "Sonny" Holton and was raised in Greensboro. Rick was a fun-loving person with a big heart, making friends wherever he went. He loved the North Carolina mountains, classic movies, good music, and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed playing golf and following North Carolina sports. There was always a laugh to be had over a good meal and beverage with Rick.

Rick attended Western Carolina University and was a fraternity brother of Theta Xi. His fraternity brothers became lifelong friends. At Western is where he met his former wife, Patricia Allred. They were married thirty-six years and had two children, Ryan and Whitney. They raised their family in Hickory where Rick worked in the corrugated packaging industry for over thirty years.

Rick was predeceased by his mother, June Allred, and father, Sonny Holton.

Rick is survived by his son Ryan Allred (Katie), his daughter Whitney Williams (Andrew), his sister Dawn Allred (Bobby Ritch), brother Mac Allred (Teresa), brother Norman Allred (Lisa), and brother James Allred (Mary Lenas). He was the proud Grandad to three grandsons, Bobby Allred, Henry Allred, and David Williams.

Rick was blessed with many friends and will be sorely missed by all.

Cremation services entrusted to Jenkins Funeral Home. At the request of the deceased, there will be no funeral service. There will be a private family memorial service at a later date.

As an incoming Freshman in the Fall of 1977, I pledged Theta Xi Fraternity at WCU. Rick was the chapter president and was a good leader for us at the time. He was someone I have always admired. He always had a funny story or memory, but also took the time to talk about more serious things as well. He will be missed.

Rick was a great friend to me during my childhood and high school years. In many ways he was like a big brother to me. We shared many good times, listening to good music (Crosby Stills Nash and Young!), serving as counselors at Camp Cheerio, and pulling for the Tarheels. We reconnected several years ago and he never failed to mention his children and grandchildren. He sent me pictures...he was so proud of his family. I will always remember Rick and I send my best wishes and prayers to all his family and friends.

Rick appreciated the finer things in life. Should be mentioned that he was a huge Bobby Jones fan. He was one of just a couple of Tarheel fans that would be happy the Pack won last night. I will miss out conversations as I always learned something when I talked with Rick. Will miss you brother. RIP

I had the pleasure of knowing Rick. He loved some Bobby Jones. I am sure his kids are a class act and will carry on his legacy. He was a
Passionate guy who thought the world of his children and the Tarheels. He was a rare Tarheel fan who also loved the Wolfpack. I believe he would be happy Today. I loved you Rick. RIP my brother!

Ryan and Family. So sorry to hear about your dad. What a great friend and Club member. I know that he was extremely proud of you and your Accomplishments. We often talked about your Golf games at Catawba Country club with the guys. Again my deepest sympathies. God Bless you and your family.

Rick was a memory maker. If you knew him, I´m sure you have at least one. I am blessed to have many and a chuckle typically comes along with the memory.
Most recently, our conversations were centered around Ryan and Whitney and his grands. I could tell where his heart was. I love and will miss you brother.
