I had not yet had the opportunity to meet Col. Collins. It was only last May that he attended my son's graduation to award him an Air Force scholarship. Chris was to join his unit this fall. I am so sorry for your loss as well as the loss to those lives which he touched. My son only met him several times but was so proud to be joining his unit. He will be surely missed by all those whose lives he touched. My prayers are with you and your family.

I got to know Lee in college, at ETSU. He was a close friend and one of the good guys; he always wore the white hat. He was just a kid when i knew him then, ready for anything, and i knew he would go on to do great things. It would have been nice to see him one more time and to meet his family. He will be missed...

Lee was a fantastic instructor and one of the most genuine and enthusiastic people I have ever known. I enjoyed every minute I was able to fly and learn from him. He was an incredible teacher, officer, and pilot. He was a great example for all of us and is sorely missed. Thank you for all you did for us Lee, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Lee was an excellent pilot, a terrific officer, and an even better person. He certainly was the favorite instructor pilot of our '05 Ft Rucker class, and probably one of the best IP's I've flown with throughout my career. His positive attitude and terrific outlook on life and his job were so infectious that he could make a student actually look forward to a checkride, and he was the type of person you missed flying with even before his untimely passing. The thoughts and prayers of my family and I go out to his wife and children.

God Bless you Lee - "Best Landing Ever"

As the parents of a current ROTC cadet,we became aquainted with and simultaneously were touched by the kindness and empathy that eminated from Col. Collins. Although he was a firm disciplinarian, he balanced his interaction with cadets with almost a fatherly love, and we grew to love him as well. Mrs. Collins and family....please know we grieve with you and hold you in our prayers.

As a member of St Charles Aviation, and moving away a couple of years ago, I still fly in to get a little airport comradery once in awhile. I met Lee on several occasions and talked with him a lot, we had something in common, I am retired USAF.

I really liked Lee, and am very sorry to see his life ended at such an early age.

My prayers are with Lee and his family, I will miss him.
