John Mansfield Obituary

Yucca Valley resident of 13 years, John Mansfield Sr., 75 years of age, passed on Sunday, December 24th, 2023, in the comfort of his home.
John was born March 31, 1948 in Jersey City, New Jersey, to the late Robert and Ann Mansfield. He was the second of three sons.
John grew up in Jersey City, NJ, where he attended William L. Dickinson High School. John loved music from an early age. He enjoyed playing the drums and singing. He was particularly fond of doo-wop groups and The Beatles. He formed a band with some friends, and even once filled in as the drummer for Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show.
John's other passion was baseball. He played, coached and had an all around love for the game. He was a loyal fan of the NY Yankees for nearly seven decades. Other hobbies of his included table tennis and billiards.
John gave 20 years of service to the airline industry as a material specialist. He loved his job and took pride in his work. John's commitment to his position and sense of stewardship led him to be appointed as an employee representative during his time with Continental Airlines at the Newark Liberty International Airport. This was a responsibility he took to heart and was honored to perform. He thrived at fostering relationships, acting as a liaison between his colleagues and upper management to bring the two sides together during difficult negotiations. He was always fair and acted with the utmost integrity. Most importantly, he cared about the people he worked with. John retired from Continental Airlines in 2010.
John was good at everything he did. What he was best at was being a family man. Whether it was a game of cards, watching a ball game, sharing a meal and some laughs, or especially playing with his grandson Alan, he loved nothing more than to spend time with his family. John was a loving and caring husband, an amazing father and grandpa, and a sweetheart of a father-in-law. He will be greatly missed, never forgotten, and forever loved.
John will be remembered by his loving wife, Virginia Mansfield; brother, Robert Mansfield (Georgia) of South Pasadena, Florida; son, John Mansfield Jr. (Kristina) of Yucca Valley; stepdaughters, Silvia Hagmaier (Craig) of Chantilly, Virginia, Virginia Cuellar (Archie) of Rochelle Park, New Jersey, and Sandy Chavez of Secaucus, New Jersey; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and his best-friend/brother from another mother of 60-plus years, Ken Cubberly of San Jose, California
A funeral Mass for John, to be attended by close friends and family, will be held at St. Mary of the Valley Catholic Church in Yucca Valley at 11 a.m. January 19th, 2024. For questions, please contact John Mansfield Jr. at (201) 921-1503.

We would like to express our deepest sympathy to the Mansfield family on the loss of their beloved John.
Our annual vacation to the desert to visit the Turk family was our opportunity to meet John and Virginia. Their kindness and hospitality made us feel like family.
John's kind spirit, sense of humor and big hugs will be missed.
May he rest in peace.
