Robert Woods

A Life Fully Lived

I have fought the good fight

I have finished the race

I have kept the faith

2 Timothy 4:7

Robert Woods was born the fifth of seven children to Jay and Mamie Woods in 1936 in Proctor, Texas. He survived a serious childhood illness that forced his older brothers to carry him around on their backs for a time. When a chemical engineer came to his high school and told about the opportunities out there for hard-working young men, Robert decided to enlist in the Army and put himself through college. After two years running radar services, he came home and attended Tarleton, where he met the love of his life, Larue Boase.

The newlyweds moved to Beaumont and worked together so he could graduate from Lamar University. He was employed by Dow Chemical in various capacities for over 30 years, working all over the world in the production of chlorine and in management. He believed in moderation in all things, and in working hard, giving back, and playing hard. He joined many sports leagues, (tennis, football, softball, basketball), and later took up running and golf. Robert and Larue enjoyed many rich friendships over the years.

After retirement, Robert built Larue her dream home overlooking Lake Travis, complete with a log cabin and tree fort for the grandkids. Robert believed that this country had given him so much that it was only right to give back. He served in many volunteer capacities, including the founding of Helping Hand Crisis Ministry. He fought his way back from a stroke and kept his fighting spirit to the end. He died peacefully in the arms of his beloved July 10, 2023.

Robert was preceded in death by his siblings Ford, Joy, Allen, Ward, Mina and Janie. He leaves a legacy of love and service to his daughters Robin (and Landy) and Jodie (and Thomas) and his grandchildren Kate (and husband Jonathan), Maggie, Nate (and wife Alisha), Jerry, James (and wife Haylee), Hope, Dylan, and Christian. In later years, Robert came to be more and more grateful to his Savior, Jesus, for the gifts of this life and for the hope of heaven, through the sacrifice of Christ.

A memorial service is planned for Friday, July 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home, 411 Ranch Rd 620 S, Lakeway, TX 78734. The family wishes to thank the many medical professionals in Lakeway, Fredericksburg, and Austin who have taken such good care of Robert over the years.

There is much I could say about Robert but finding the words to express my gratitude for his life is difficult to do. His life is truly described in 2 Timothy 4:7 but for us that knew him he was an inspiration and a light into the heart of God. Robert was a Jesus follower with a heart for all people. I learned about compassion working with him at Spicewood Crisis ministry, I learned about the love of Christ when he was teaching the Barton Creek Lakeside Bible Study and he gave us a deep
appreciation for the word of God. He was a friend, mentor, spiritual leader, family man with a quiet soul that always led you to Jesus.I pray for Larue and for all of Robert´s family in this time of great loss. I loved Robert Woods and look forward to seeing him again.
