Kevin Kerr Obituary

Kevin Geddes Kerr, age 65, returned to his heavenly home on October 19, 2022. He was born on August 20, 1957 to Thomas Bailey and Marilyn Geddes Kerr in Pleasanton, CA. He grew up in Maryland and enjoyed many days playing in the nearby woods and swimming in the neighborhood pool. He returned to Cache Valley each summer to help on the family farm and loved spending time with his grandparents and extended family. He loved to golf and excelled in sports in high school. He has a standing record for the high jump at his high school in Maryland. He was very musically inclined and took first seat playing the trumpet. One of the highlights of his life was serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tehran, Iran. Many fond memories and friendships were formed during this time which lasted his entire life. He will forever be grateful for the bonds formed by this experience. It greatly strengthened his unwavering testimony to serve those around him. He held many positions in the church and loved serving with the youth and in the married student stake. He graduated from USU and BYU with a masters degree in accounting and worked with top accounting firms and at the USU Bookstore as the associate director until his health would no longer allow. He married the love of his life, Linda Roskelley Kerr, on September 30, 1994 in the Logan LDS Temple. They loved to travel and spend time together. He was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease at an early age and struggled with health issues most of his life. He set a wonderful example of faith and endurance to all who had the privilege of knowing him. We will miss him dearly. He is survived by his spouse, his parents, his in-laws, Sidney and Joan Roskelley, his brothers, Bryan Geddes Kerr and Blaine Geddes Kerr, his sister, Nancy Kerr, his sister-in-law Cindy (Lynn) Nielsen, his brother-in-law Rick (Linda) Roskelley, his children, Lindsay Ryan (Mike) Cantow, Taylor Reid (Jackie) Kerr, Amber Littell, Aaron (Liz) Littell, Andrew Littell, and Ashley (Zach) Yates along with 13 grandchildren. At his request, there will be a graveside service held for close friends and family at the Logan cemetery under the direction of Bishop Peter Johnson. We sincerely thank all of the medical workers, family members and friends who supported us throughout this time and look forward to seeing Kevin again one day.

I grew up with Kevin in Maryland. Our 2 congregations shared a building and our church high school athletic teams frequently intensely competed against each other. Kevin was a great athlete and a nice guy with an infectious smile. We then sat next to each other throughout our freshman year in a BYU religion class. What an experience! I will always remember Kevin fondly.

Linda, I was so sorry to read of your loss. I remember your husband's kindness and patience as he helped me learn to ski that 5th grade Beaver Mountain ski trip. With deepest sympathy, Rosanne Porter

Our deepest condolences to Kevin´s family. We are so heart broken to hear this news. The first time We met Kevin and his lovely wife was at McDonald´s. Me and my husband are originally from Iran. Kevin and Linda were there with their grand kids and we were there with our kids. From the playground one of his grand kid kept calling "baba" (father in Farsi) and my husband replying to that call and realized it was not our son. Kevin came and started talking in Farsi and told us he has asked his grand kids to call him baba.
Since then we have been friends and we had the privilege to have him at our Iranian new year celebration (Nowrooz) several times. He has been so supportive to the Iranian students in Logan. We will miss your smile and your kindness and friendship.

Although we did not know Kevin really well, I felt he had to be someone very special, because he loved and married into the Roskelly family - which was one of the very best in Cache Valley. We are very saddened to learn of his death - mainly because we sense the tremendous loss the Roskelleys and all who knew Kevin well are feeling now.

I feel lucky to have rubbed shoulders with Kevin briefly. As a young missionary in Toronto speaking Farsi 10 years ago, I felt somewhat hopeless at times. We didn´t have MTC training and did not have much materials in Farsi from the church. Kevin, by God´s grace, somehow learned about our little reignition of Farsi missionary work for the first time since his days in Tehran and had somehow gotten in contact with our mission. He would send us materials, scan old translations of things from his days in Iran and mail them or email them to us. Even got us a set of Pimsleur language learning CDs. Kevin was a legend to me and all the Farsi elders in Toronto.

Eventually he and his wife even made a trip to Toronto and came to our ward to visit. All the Persian members loved him and he loved them back so quickly.

Kevin was a life long missionary in such a beautiful way. I´m saddened to not have seen him for many years before his passing. But hope to see him again someday. Be omide Khoda.

Kevin was a fellow missionary in Iran with me. My group was about 1 year behind Kevin's group and we looked up to him for leadership and guidance. Kevin could not have been a better example of friend and disciple of Christ. Such a good man that loved whom he came in contact. My first area was in central Iran and I didn't have contact with Kevin until I was transferred to Tehran in December of 1977. The first day there, Kevin suggested that the elders go out for lunch at a local shish kebab restaurant. When I ordered chicken Kevin asked if why I didn't order chello kebab (lamb), and asked if I had ever tried it. I told him I wasn't a big fan of lamb and had never tried it, even though I had been in the country for 5 months. Kevin took charge and told the waiter to change my order to lamb. BEST THING EVER! So good. After that, I tended to ask Kevin many things about the work, the country, local traditions, etc.

As he was going home at the end of his 2 years, he gave me one of his suits. Brown didn't look that good on me, but it was a nice suit and it came from Kevin, so I wore it proudly.

This relationship with Kevin continued over the years and his care and concern for others never changed.

Loved the guy. Loved how he cared for others. Be good, buddy.

Kevin was a remarkable person. Shortly after meeting his lovely wife, Linda, I was introduced to Kevin. He was warm, charming, happy, and impressively fluent in Farsi.

My husband being from Mashhad, brought about a quick friendship. Although my time knowing Kevin was short, his memory and impression will stay with me forever.

The biggest thing I admire is the love I could see and feel between Kevin and Linda. That was beautiful and purely genuine. I learned his family, kids, grandkids, and parents meant the world to him.

The last time I saw Kevin, I walked out with a Book of Mormon written in Farsi; what an honor.

Kevin Kerr was my mission companion in Iran for longer than anyone else I served with. We had some of the best and funniest experiences I can remember. He was senior to me and taught me the day-to-day things I needed to know about getting along. He watched over me, loved me, and in return I loved him. I look forward to re-uniting with him again in the not-to-distant future.
