Lorna Archibald Obituary

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Lorna Rae Nuttall Archibald, passed away peacefully on February 12th, 2025, in North Logan, Utah. She was 84. She was born on January 14, 1941, in Logan, Utah. She was the cherished daughter of Lydia Marie Nuttall and James Leo Nuttall. She grew up in Benson, Utah, with her siblings, Leo J, LaRee, LuDean, and LaVoy.

Lorna, or simply Nana-as she was affectionately known by her children and grandchildren-was an angel and a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was marked by love, beauty, compassion, and selfless service. She was a true force for good to her family and the beloved community of Benson, Utah. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by her.

Lorna is survived by her sister, LaVoy Nuttall Williams, and Lorna's four adult children: Jed Cecil Archibald, Steven N Archibald, Lori Rae Price, and Mark James Archibald. She has nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Lorna was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Archibald.

Lorna grew up on a small dairy farm in Benson, Utah. At a young age, she worked on the family farm, herding cattle from the pasture, feeding calves, moving sprinkler pipes, tromping hay, and transporting milk from the milk parlor to a milk tank room. Growing up she loved the animals on the farm. Her family milked holstein and jersey dairy cows; raised chickens, turkeys, pigs, sheep, and horses. And she had a particular love for her dogs: Butch and Boy.

Lorna attended elementary school in Benson and had many friends. In the wintertime, she sometimes went to school by skating on the frozen Bear River near her home.

She was an excellent student in school, although sometimes a little mischievous. For instance, she and her classmates would occasionally communicate in Double Dutch-a fictional, coded language-much to the bewilderment and displeasure of their schoolteachers. On breaks from and after school, she and her friends often crossed the street from the Benson School to a convenience store, Roy and Ruby's Gas Station, and bought candy for only a nickel.

Lorna laughed a lot during her teenage years, especially with one of her best friends, Venice Jorgenson. They enjoyed each other's company as they attended North Cache High School in Richmond, Utah. Lorna enjoyed the many friends she made and participated in campus life, serving as the student body's vice president. She was also a Junior Prom Queen and took leading roles in high school plays, such as the Pajama Game, South Pacific, and Carousel.

Lorna loved music and was a talented singer. At just 3 years of age, Lorna was encouraged by her father to sing, and he sometimes placed her on a table or desk to sing to others. Later in life, Lorna sang at many funerals, community, and family events. This talent in singing helped her win the title of Miss Cache Valley at the Miss Cache Valley pageant in 1961. During the competition, she sang "Love Is Where You Find It" by Nacio Herb Brown and Earl Ben.

On November 22nd, 1962, Lorna married Cecil Archibald, her high school sweetheart, in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They raised a family on the dairy farm Lorna grew up on, which they purchased from her father and expanded in Benson and Clarkston, Utah. In addition to raising a family, Lorna was employed for 30 years at Zions Bank.

Lorna held many church callings throughout her life, including Relief Society President and as Nana referred to herself, Compassionate Servant. Lorna also served on a mission for several years with Cecil as a senior missionary tour guide at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Those who knew Lorna will remember her for her warmth, kindness, quick wit, and humor. She wants everyone to "Have great joy!" in this life and enjoy a nice Coke with some chocolate!

The family would like to thank Hospice and the Gables Assisted Living for their loving concern and care.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22nd, 2025, at the Benson Church 3472 N 3000 W in Benson, Utah. Lorna was an amazing person and a friend to so many. She had a way of making everyone feel at ease . On cold winter mornings in Benson, I´d get on the school bus and there she would be sitting right behind the driver next to the heater saving the seat right next to her. All the way toNorthCache we´d discuss everything that came to mind. We´d laugh
And enjoy each others company until we got to Richmond.
She was always there for everyone and she never hesitated to share her many talents. Many of us took type and shorthand together .
It was a difficult class, but like so many other things, she turned it into something we looked forward to-Because of her we started calling each other by our initials as part of the class..
There are so many memories that come to mind..
She was able to bring the best out in people. I feel so fortunate to have called her friend and relative for so many years..
Loved you Lorna..
