Nancy Platz Obituary

PLATZ

NANCY JANE 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 5, with friends at her side. She was born August 18, 1931 in Detroit and lived in her beloved Birmingham since 1951 when her father was transferred back to the Detroit area. She was the daughter of Charles F. and Elizabeth Platz. Nancy was a 1949 graduate of Rogers City High School in Rogers City, MI. She attended Northwestern University and graduated from Michigan State University in 1953. Nancy was employed at General Motors Tech Center for 35 years and retired in 1993. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Birmingham and the Women's Club at the Birmingham Community House. Nancy was an active volunteer at St. James Episcopal Church and Cranbrook Gardens. An avid genealogist, she belonged to many genealogy societies. In addition to her volunteer work, Nancy enjoyed gardening, reading, and sports. She is survived by her cousins and longtime friends, especially her St. James colleagues and her Birmingham neighbors who were always there for her. Funeral Services are private. Memorial contributions can be made to the Baldwin Public Library and St. James Episcopal Church in Birmingham.

My grandmother, Annabell Yarch Gorman, babysat Nancy for years. I have a photo or two of Nancy Jane. My grandmother often spoke of working for Mr. and Mrs. Platz and learned to cook from Mrs. Platz. Rest in peace, Nancy.
