James Picou Obituary

James Willard Picou, 53, a resident of Houma, was born Mar. 11, 1963, and passed away January 6, 2017.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Samart Funeral Home.

James was blessed to be surrounded by his group of good friends. He depended on their kindness, compassion, and help as he battled daily with many physical and medical issues.

James's friends truly cared about his well-being; their support was greatly appreciated by James and his family. He was a hard worker who took pride in having a job and in doing it well. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, reading The Courier, and discussing current events and family news.

James is survived by his siblings, Lisette Brunet, Deborah Picou, Larke Fabre, Armand (Carol) Picou, Nicole (Joe) Lovitt, Monique (Ricky) Rozands, Jelpi Picou, Emilie (Billy) Pitre, and Adrienne Picou, and their children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jelpi and Irma Porche Picou; and brother, Charles Picou.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the Good Samaritan Food Bank.

Samart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

I moved away from Houma in 1989 and had the pleasure of getting to know "Picou" as I knew him. The one thing I do remember about him was his infectious laugh, happy demeanor, and how easy it was being around him. He was always laughing and goofing with the rest of us. Rest in Peace ole boy

I was sad to hear of James' death. Bob and I extend our sincere sympathy to his sisters and brothers -- our High Street neighbors; to James' friends, his extended family, a little bit of "Picou" will remain with you. I am happy to have reconnected with James in recent years in one of the downtown restaurants where our groups ate regularly or at Rouse's. God bless you,James, as you "fly high with the angels" and now -- "go rest high on that mountain." Love and prayers, Marie Lirette Alsabrook
