Andrew Dossett McCullough, "Dossett" to his throngs of loving family members and friends, was born on November 24, 1935 in McAllen, TX. The brilliant colors and rich culture of this city on the border of Mexico instilled in Dossett a lifelong appreciation of art, music, dance and delicious foods. Dossett was an outstanding cook, a consummate host, and an impeccable dresser who did not fear color. Although an excellent conversationalist, he much preferred the action on the dancefloor to his seat at the dining table. Dossett loved children, dogs, good humored people and, in the absence of live music, could often be found laughing and telling stories around the dinner table long after the plates had been cleared. Dossett's passion for organizing friends and hosting parties revealed itself early when, as social chair of the SAE house at UT Austin, he begged his father to allow him one extra semester so that he could see through to completion some very important fall events. His father denied the request and instead pointed him toward Houston where he began a long and successful career as a financial broker, first with Underwood Neuhaus and later with First of Texas, a brokerage he co-founded in the early 80s. Dossett was an enthusiastic champion of all people dear to him, including his two children, five grandchildren, 15 godchildren, and the myriad cousins, nieces and nephews whom he adored and continually praised and encouraged. He attended every one of the bi-annual Dossett family Thanksgiving reunions for over forty years. Situated at lovely Camp Allen, these reunions afforded Dossett the opportunity to connect and revel in the sometimes mischievous behaviors of his beloved family (a midnight pie fight on the eve of Thanksgiving comes to mind). Dossett served passionately on the Houston boards of Texas Children's Hospital, St. John's School, and DePelchin Children's Center, and he was an active member of The Bayou Club, The Houston Country Club, Allegro and Eagle Lake Rod and Gun Club. He was a faithful member of Grace Bible Church and before that of St. John the Divine, both in Houston. Dossett was at his best in his summer community, Chautauqua, in Boulder, Colorado. Here, tucked in the majesty of the Rockies, Dossett loved to spend time with family and friends in the summer cabin built by his parents in the 1950s. Dossett and his unbridled zest for life will be missed by his many admirers. His legacy of love and laughter will live on in his daughter Anna B McCullough of Houston and her children Zachary (25), Bettyann (20) and Mary (19); his son Andrew McCullough of Houston, his wife, Laura and their daughter Lily (18) and son Colin (16); as well as his brother Ed McCullough and wife Gaye of Houston; his sister Jane and her husband Jack Miller, of Seattle, WA. Dossett was preceded in death in death by his first wife and mother of Anna and Andrew, Bettyann Asche, from whom he divorced, but remained close; and brother Leland McCullough of Shreveport, LA.
