Dear Mr and Mrs Mantri, Trisha, and Anita's grandmother Kumud Vaidya: As we approach the one-year anniversary of the loss of your beautiful, amazing daughter to this world I want you to know that I think of her loss often. And, honor her memory and an enthusiastic junior dynamic colleague that I truly admired and enjoyed getting to know and help mentor. I remember how draining the MD/PhD pathway was myself, and how fatigued I was at times from work on the wards in the third year of medical school and Internship-- and worried about Anita getting through those years safely. Blessings on you all on this very heartfelt and challenging anniversary. Please drop me a note if I can be of any further assistance. [email protected]

Anita became one of my really good friends while she was in North Carolina. I remember her as being the most down to earth person and we bonded over trivial things in life. I could count on her to give me the best advice and we were looking forward to seeing each other in the near future. I will miss you Anita.

Mr. & Mrs. Mantri & Trisha - I am so saddened by the tragic loss of Anita. I work with Trisha, and never had the privilege of meeting Anita, but I know how close Trisha was with her, how much Trisha looked forward to her trips home to see her and how special your trip to India was last year. It seems that Anita was a beautiful and brilliant person and her loss is not just yours, but also to everyone who would have been better off from her intellect and important science and medical research. Her name and memory will live in through her Scholarship Foundation. In the Jewish faith there is a saying, "may her memory be a blessing". There are no words that can comfort your grief and your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Mr. & Mrs. Mantri and Trisha,
Words cannot convey how deeply saddened I am to hear of Anita's passing. I remember her vivacious spirit, her can-do attitude and her passion for any kind of science, but especially for space science. While there is nothing anyone can say that will help ease your sorrow during this difficult time, I hope you find comfort in family and friends, and the knowledge that Anita has left behind an amazing legacy. She will be missed, but never forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family.

This news is a shock to all of her friends far and wide, and her family and friends all have my deepest condolences and concern. Anita was a true "good spirit" type of person-- warm, caring, bright, enthusiastic, driven, and visionary. She and I served on the Aerospace Medical Assoc International Council, and as an MD/PhD ahead of her about 15 yrs in my career, I was an informal mentor and sounding board for her... and honored to act as such and know her. Anita had infectious enthusiasm, a vision to improve our capabilities in Space, and also to promote Space Exploration in multiple organizations, including the Aerospace Medical Association and Space Medicine Association. She literally was a future national asset in terms of her developing capability-- and an exceptional leader among her peers as well as evidenced by serving as the Aerospace Medical Student and Residents Organization President (and on the international Council as noted above-- among other work within our broader community). I honor her life, and her legacy will be remembered by many of us. I and others in our community are praying that as time passes the heavy sting of grief will lessen, and heartfelt warm memories of her life can be more in the forefront of our minds. Blessings on her family and close friends during these hugely challenging days and months ahead.
Sincerely,
Dwight Holland, MD, PhD

I am so, so sorry for your loss. It was always a joy to catch up with Anita at AsMA meetings and other NASA events. She was so smart, warm, and very articulate-- she always stood out in the crowd. I am struggling to grasp what has happened. Please know that Anita will be tremendously missed among her colleagues and friends in human spaceflight research. Sending our prayers and thoughts to her family during this incredibly difficult time. -- Sandra Whitmire

I am saddened to hear that such a bright, young person such as Anita has passed away. I remember having her as a ninth grade student, and I knew then she would achieve any goal she set for herself. My thoughts and prayers go out to Anita's family, especially to her sister Trisha who was also a member of the Cinco Ranch family. May your hearts be filled with joyful memories of Anita, her accomplishments and zest for life that will live on through those who loved her.
