Bernice LaFuze Obituary

MRS. BERNICE RECTOR LaFUZE was born January 28, 1907, in Smithfield, Illinois. She died on March 18, 2005 in Houston. She was married to the late Dr. G. Leighton LaFuze. One of eight children, she is survived by her brothers John Rector of Richland, Washington, and Leo and Paul Rector, both of Champaign, Illinois; also by her children, William L. LaFuze of Houston, and Lynne LaFuze Davies of Germantown, Maryland; also by her grandchildren Mary Leighton Whiles and William Leighton LaFuze, Jr. of Houston, Elizabeth LaFuze Gill of Ft. Myers, Florida, Frank F. Farabow of Arlington, Virginia, Amy Stupak of Chantilly, Virginia, and Andrew Farabow of Norman, Oklahoma; also by her seven great grandchildren. Mrs. LaFuze earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Illinois, and a Master's Degree in Education from Hardin-Simmons University. She was a life-long educator in business and secondary schools in Chevy Chase, Maryland, Abilene, Texas, and Oklahoma. Mrs. LaFuze survived her husband Dr. G. Leighton LaFuze, professor of history and political science at the Univeristy of Illinois and other universities. Donations in lieu of flowers may be given in memory of Bernice LaFuze to Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Dr., Houston, Texas 77024.
