Bruce Mosier Obituary

Bruce Debs Mosier
1936-2017
Bruce Debs Mosier, a/k/a Bubba (80), a native Houstonian, son of Luella and Bud (E.N.) Mosier, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017 at high noon (punctual as always).
Known as a consummate wordsmith, it was no surprise that Bruce would pursue and graduate from UofH Law School. He was a 52-year lawyer, and until January 9th was an Asst. Harris County Attorney and member of the self-proclaimed Counsel of Elders. Bruce was double board certified in real estate law, a mediator, and an eminent domain expert. He was a mentor to all attorneys–young and old. Nicknamed "The Floodway" Lawyer and written in The Chronicle as the banjo-playing lawyer, Bruce was an attorney for and member of First Baptist Church Heights and FOE #63.
In addition to family, Bruce had a great love of music, starting his career with Kenny Rogers and The Scholars. For the last 10 years, Bruce led The Sunshiners Show Band as a vocalist and played 4-string banjo, guitar, ukulele, and harmonica. When he was bored, he did banjo repair, woodworking and crochet. He also taught harmony to and mentored his children and grandchildren in life and music.
Bruce was a lifelong Democrat and was proud to help turn Harris County blue in the 2016 election.
He identified himself as a family man–husband to Diane for 43 years; father of Tammy Thompson, Laura Ford, David Mosier and Carli Mosier; guardian of granddaughter, Catie Moss; grandfather of Natalie, Amanda, Trinity, Nova, Max and Raiden; great grandfather to Henry "The Boss;" and brother to Eileen Buice.
The Family says he was punny, funny, and sunny. We loved his hugs. He never met a stranger and he taught us all.
Being the lover of education, his body was donated to UT Health Research. He would have gotten a kick that those "OLD BONES," as the George Burns song he used to sing said, will still have some lessons left to teach. Therefore, there will be a Fantastical Farewell Festivity for Bruce Mosier in February. Check with caringbridge.com/visit/brucemosier for date and details.
Bruce would love for you to make a donation to the American Banjo Museum; www.americanbanjomuseum.com; 9 E. Sheridan Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73014.

A competent lawyer and a very nice fellow who helped many of us fight Harris Country when they tried to pay next to nothing for land to build a toll road along Hardy Street. Thanks for the victory. You are missed.

Bruce was a lawyer with a great reputation for subject matter expertise in all things property related. That reputation preceded him and his counsel was always well regarded. Bruce served the people of Harris County with devotion and was a gentleman who well represented the county attorneys he served. He was the smartest grass roots political strategist I ever knew and when I met him and Diane, I was hooked on their insight and plans for helping Dems get elected. His leadership of the silver dems and of many other successful organizing efforts is as much responsible for helping those of us who won in 2016 as any I can name, and I will miss him dearly. Love to Diane always, from Kim, Olivia, Jack and Jack.

Dad, you are my rock, my inspiration. You taught me so much about being a good man. I was still learning from you, and believe that I will continue to do so. I love you, Dad.
