Carla Everett Obituary

Carla Allbritton Everett
1924-2015
Carla Allbritton Everett passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, the 29th of October 2015, in Houston. She was 91. She had struggled for over 10 years with Alzheimer's.
Carla was born in Monroe, Louisiana, on the 5th of January 1924, to Birdie Kennedy and Kylie Timms Allbritton. She attended Louisiana Tech in Ruston, and Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, where she obtained a Master's Degree in Religious Education.
She came to Houston in 1947 where she worked as an administrator in the Baptist Student Union. She worked with the student nurses at Memorial Baptist Hospital. In 1949 she married Bill Everett, with whom she had 2 children, Alan and Bryan.
Carla, with her winning smile, was loved by all. She was a devoted wife and mother who spoiled her wayward children and cared for her ailing husband in his later years. She was very active in the community, teaching English as a second language in the SMILE program at South Main Baptist Church. She was active in the Church Choir, the Reba Sunday School Class, was a volunteer at the Hospital, the Quarter Club, Coterie, Bridge Club, Luncheon Club, the Garden Club, and much more. She was a world traveler with her husband Bill. They were generous donors to Houston Baptist University and many other educational organizations. She liked antiques, dancing, swimming and killing snakes ... was famous for her award winning pecan pies, her blue-ribbon flower arrangements and was a proud member of PFLAG.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Bill Everett, parents Birdie K. and Kylie T. Allbritton, brothers Norman L. and Buford W. Allbritton. She is survived by her sons Alan and Bryan Everett plus many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at University Place for the wonderful love and attention they provided for Carla.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from four o'clock in the afternoon until six o'clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 4th of November, in the drawing room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
An interment service is to be conducted at half-past ten o'clock in the morning on Thursday, the 5th of November, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Street in Houston.

Carla was a kind, loving person to all. She gave so much of herself to her service to God at South Main Baptist church. She taught me Sunday School some 40+ years ago. She was dedicated to Bill and the boys. May God bless you boys (or shall we say men now?).
