Dr. Strickland was a great professor as well as mentor. Dr. Strickland was the first professor I met when I got to P.V., what a great experience. Many students became successful from his teachings, and many were just lucky enough to have known him. Ol Doc will be greatly missed....there will never be another! God Bless you.

"What Do You See In Your Rear View Mirror of Life"
As I reflect on the Life of the Great Dr. C. L Strickland, my initial encounter with him was fall of 1996 my freshman year. To me, Doc was more than a husband to his wife, a father to his children, a friend to a stranger, a therapist and counselor to those who needed a listening ear, an educator to the aspiring, but to me he is My Life Long Coach and “Pops” who I am going to miss very much. The first lesson you taught me as a young man on the campus of Prairie View A& M University was to allow my character to impact another person’s life positively because an impact will have a long lasting effect than a first impression, but your Integrity is what God admires. While matriculating through my undergraduate and learning how to enhance and develop my Character, Doc also encouraged me to continue my education and pursue my Master’s degree.
During this session of my life, Doc taught me another life lesson on Perseverance. No matter how difficult the work and the world around me became he would always say, “ Now Issiah this is no time to give up be like the palm tree in a storm, bend but don’t break”. After overcoming that hurdle Doc stated that his desire was to be able to call me Dr. Thomas one day, as you know he Encouraged and Empowered me to pursue my Ph.D. As I reflect back at this junction in my life, Doc became very instrumental and encouraged me to become more like David and seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore (Psalm 105:4).
Now that “Pops” is gone, I can and will always remember our last conversation on July 29, 2007 these words "Wake Up & Work on your Dreams, Fix & Adjust your Focus and then Live Your Dreams".
“Pops” I am going to miss you “My Life Coach”. You have left your mark on my life and many others. I am truly lost for words and left with blank thoughts at the idea of you being gone. I am truly going to miss our weekly phone conversations and Prairie View laughs.
P.S Thank you for teaching and walking with me this far to help me understand that there are so many things to think about, but nothing worth worrying about……………………..
Love You!

Dr. Strickland was a friend, advisor and teacher. He was very instrumental in helping his students matriculate through the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences program. As a student, I enjoyed conversing with him and listening to his philosophy about life and people. He was a true intellectual who enjoyed analyzing and critiquing fundamental beliefs as they come to be conceptualized and formulated. He was a kind and caring person. He will be missed. My prayers are with the family.
