Charles (Charlie) Edward Brown, our beloved Paw Paw, went home to be with Jesus December 20, 2022.
Paw Paw was born at home on May 1, 1936 in Talco, Texas. He was the tenth of eleven children to Ethel and Will Brown. Paw Paw was the son of a sharecropper and was very proud of his humble beginnings. He and his siblings worked with their father in the cotton fields of Mount Vernon, Texas. He carried this work ethic with him all of his life and it made him very successful in everything he did. Paw Paw was a standout football player at Mt. Vernon High School and his success led him to Southern Methodist University to play on a football scholarship. He decided to continue his collegiate career at the University of Houston and was recruited by the legendary golf coach Dave Williams. It was at the U of H that Paw Paw met Martha Edgil. They later married and had three Children: Chuck Brown, Luann Lubojasky (Rodney) and Billy Ray Brown (Cindy). After a highly successful football career at Houston, Paw Paw played professional ball for the Oakland Raiders and the Edmonton Eskimos. He made many meaningful friendships while playing collegiate and professional football which led him to the concrete industry in Houston. Throughout his career, Paw Paw was the go-to guy in the concrete business. He was responsible for many massive projects in the city. Chances are we have all driven or walked on concrete in Houston that Paw Paw had a hand in. He continued his career into his seventies and was always a loyal, hardworking employee. Maw Maw and Paw Paw raised their family primarily in Quail Valley in Missouri City, Texas. They made lifelong friendships and Paw Paw cultivated a reputation as an excellent golfer. He continued to be a fixture in Quail Valley up until his last few months. Many have expressed how much they enjoyed their chats with him on the porch and marveled at the cleanliness and organization of his garage. Paw Paw also maintained a beautiful, manicured yard that we all enjoyed on our visits. From his early days as a football player, Paw Paw has always loved and served the University of Houston. He attended a countless number of games across all sports. He enjoyed watching Chuck play football for the Coogs in the 70's, Billy Ray play golf in the 80's and recently his granddaughters Kendall and Kati Ray play softball. His presence and support were valued by many Cougars over the years. Of all of his accomplishments, Paw Paw was most proud of his family. He was a wonderful father and an exceptional grandfather to Chad Brown (Lindsey), Heath Lubojasky (Brooke), Kiley Lubojasky, Kendall Brown, Madison Brown and Kati Ray Brown. Paw Paw also had four great grandchildren: Ellis Lubojasky, Cole Lubojasky, Collins Lubojasky and Emmaline Brown. He loved watching his "pups" play their sports and was overjoyed when we were all able to all be together for awesome pool days and fish fries. Paw Paw bravely fought Alzheimer's in the later years of his life. As his memory faded, he always had a glint in his eye and was famously charming til the end. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Aegis Senior Care group for their daily support. We are especially thankful for Nazrah who was an invaluable caregiver and friend in the final days. A memorial service will be held on December 28, 2022 at 11:00 am at Christ Church Sugar Land 3300 Austin Parkway.
