Hektor Moreno Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carnes Funeral Home - Texas City on Mar. 30, 2026.
With deep faith in the promise of eternal life, Hektor Dwayne Moreno was called home to be with the Lord in the early morning of March 25, 2026, at the age of 66.

Dwayne was a beloved husband to his wife, Sara Moreno, and a devoted father to their two children, Angela and Samuel Moreno. He is also survived by his sister, Doris Moreno Jones (Douglas); his brother, David Moreno (Oksana); and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and other loving family members and friends.

Born in Texas City on February 15, 1960, Dwayne graduated from the University of Houston and went on to build a long and fulfilling career in the construction and asphalt industry at Jones Finke, Redland Stone, and Martin Marietta before retiring at Vulcan Materials, where he formed many lasting friendships.

Dwayne had a witty and keen sense of humor, and enjoyed spending time doing the things he loved. He had a special love for golf, music, and the outdoors. He enjoyed playing cards and fishing, especially when shared with family and friends. Dwayne was generous and kind, always giving his time and energy to support his children in their many activities, from basketball games and Boy Scout camping trips to choir performances and beyond. He always ignited laughter and joy wherever he went with his jolly (and occasionally mischievous) spirit. His radiant smile and boisterous laugh shone especially bright as he played Santa Claus at family Christmas gatherings over the years.

Dwayne was first diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2018. Following the removal of one kidney, he experienced several years of remission until the cancer returned in 2022. After treatment, he again entered remission until September 2025, when he was hospitalized and diagnosed with cancer in multiple organs.

He is now reunited in Heaven with his parents, Hector and Ernestine Garza Moreno; his beloved sister, Diane Moreno; and his cousin, James Garza.

Dwayne passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family.

His jubilant laugh will echo in the hearts of all who loved him. Heaven has gained a joyful soul, and its light shines ever brighter.

Service information and details may be found at Carnes Funeral Home or at https://www.carnesfuneralhome.com
