Charles R. Kopecky, M.D.

Charles Rayner Kopecky, M.D. was born in San Antonio, Texas on 21 November 1953, and died from cancer on 16 September 2022. He was 68 years of age. Charles completed his Bachelor of Science in Biological Studies from The University of Texas at San Antonio. He completed his Doctor of Medicine, Internship, and Residency in Psychiatry at The University of Texas at Houston. As a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology, Inc., and the American Academy of Pain Management, Charles served as a Psychiatrist and Assistant Professor at The University of Texas School of Medicine over a career spanning 33 years.

Prior to going to medical school, Charles attended the College of Country Music in Claremore, Oklahoma. He loved music, could play any stringed instrument, and enjoyed playing the bass in the bands "Hay Wire", "Funny Band" and "Fat Chance". His love of music was only matched by his passion for the education of his daughters, trainees, and the care for the patients that he served.

Charles is survived by daughters Cassandra Elizabeth Kopecky (Tyler Neustaedter) and Alexandra Caitlin Kopecky and their mother Heather Kopecky, and by daughter Katheryn Taylor Kopecky of mother Amanda Ramos (predeceased), and by sister Beulah Ann Kopecky Hughston (Thomas). He is also survived by his loving cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Willis Kopecky, M.D. and Beulah Elizabeth Rayner Kopecky, and brothers Joseph Willis Kopecky, Jr., Samuel Rayner Kopecky, and Thomas Rayner Kopecky.

A memorial service will be held on 26 November 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at the Episcopal Church of Reconciliation in San Antonio, Texas. The Reverends Mary and Doug Earle will officiate. In lieu of customary remembrances, those wishing to may make a donation to either the Katheryn Taylor Kopecky Texas Uniform Transfer to Minors Act (TUTMA) Account, in Care of Frost Bank, Private Banking, 111 West Houston Street, San Antonio, TX 78205 or the National Comprehensive Cancer Network at https://www.nccn.org/ a nonprofit organization that sets the standards of cancer care for providers as well as patients and their families. The family would like to thank Tom Flanagan, System Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of Memorial Hermann, and the clinical staff of the Houston Hospice.

I trained under Dr. Kopecky at the NPC. What a loss. He was a thoroughly decent human being. A gentleman. My condolences to his family.
