Chester Dickson Obituary

Chester Dickson
10/04/1946 - 06/08/2025
Chester "Chet" Edward Dickson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on June 8, 2025, in the arms of his beloved wife of 52 years, Diane Dickson. He was born October 4, 1946, and raised in Houston by his parents, Helen and Edward Obediah "Obie" Dickson.

Chet had two passions: church and work. He was a devoted member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Houston for over 70 years and served as a trustee for Memphis Theological Seminary and Bethel University. He regularly invited people, everywhere he met, to join them in worship. In his view, church-going was the lifeblood of meaningful community, and the source of spirit.

Chet was more than a visionary entrepreneur-he was the heart and soul of WorldVue (formerly World Cinema). From the very beginning, nearly 50 years ago, he built this company with a relentless belief in putting people first-customers, colleagues, and partners alike. His personal warmth, faith in God, integrity, and unwavering commitment to service shaped the foundation of the culture that continues to guide the company today.

Chet is preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Obie Dickson.

Chet's memory will live on through his wife, Diane; their five children: Scott Dickson and wife Lisa, Kelley Fitzgerald and husband Alec Borrett, Holly McDaniel and husband Marshall, Kimberly Ruud and husband Lance, and Thomas Fatjo III and wife Wendy; grandchildren Clive and Maeve Dickson, Griffin Fitzgerald, and Hugh, Lilly, Andie Borrett, Paige Roehl, and Marcos and Bella Bustos-McDaniel, Landon (Emma), Justin and Jessica Ruud, Berkeley, Thomas IV, and Travis Fatjo; great-grandchildren Liam Chester and Jack Ruud. Chet is also survived by his sister, Wrenne Saunders, multiple nieces and nephews and cousins-removed, all of whom he loved dearly.

A celebration of life will be held at 10am on Tuesday, June 24th, in the Chapel of Grace Presbyterian Church, 10221 Ella Lee Lane, in Houston. The family will gather for a private burial at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Houston Texas, 2119 Avalon Place, Houston, Texas 77019.

I Had the blessing of meeting Mr. Dickson back in 1980.
I was attending Woodrow Wilson elementary school and our guidance counselor Mrs. Parsons invited me to her church where her husband Mr. Parsons was the pastor.
They would come pick me up on the church bus every Sunday along with my friends from school that also attended church.
Back then we were all latchkey kids and most of us growing up in single parent households.
Mr. Dickson was like our surrogate father on Sunday. He would take us go kart, riding after church, or out on his boat, or even to his beautiful house with the llamas and emus, and even a video arcade with the original full size Pac-Man and pin ball machines.

As I became a teenager, Mr. Dickson was so thoughtful and father like, that he wanted to keep me and my best friend Amy Black out of trouble so he asked us to volunteer at the nursing home that was next door to my house. He actually came out of his own pocket to pay us 100$ a week even though we were there to volunteer. At 15 back in the 80s, that was a lot of money.
I will never forget his kindness and generosity and overall amazing spirit that he so kindly shared with everybody he came in contact with.
We will never forget, Mr. Dixon as a guiding light and inspiration to us all.
My condolences to his beautiful family, you all are so blessed to have had him as a part of your life
Sincerely,
Mercedes Nicole Paul Mallard

When I was in 2nd grade he became my Sunday school teacher and took us kids everywhere. Some of us never had a good male role model and that he became. He was like no other. A true Angel on earth. I will never forget all that he has done.

I´m so sorry for your loss. I am praying for you all. Please know that your loved one is safe in God´s memory (Proverbs 14:14,15). Just as he brought his son Jesus back to life, he will do the same for your loved one. May God give you comfort and strength to help you cope during this difficult time.
