Dan Ewing Obituary

"He has fought the good fight, he has finished the race, he has kept the faith." II Timothy 4:7. DAN DOUGLAS EWING, wonderful husband and loving father, passed away peacefully at home on November 22, 2002, surrounded by Jerrie, his wife of 26 years, daughter, Tamera, and son, Kirby. Dan was born on July 26, 1953, in Natchitoches, LA, to William O. and Edith Ewing. After moving to Houston in 1961, Dan attended Houston Public Schools, graduating from Sharpstown High School in 1972. Growing up, Dan enjoyed surfing, skateboarding, baseball, playing the guitar( which he continued throughout his life), and the Beatles. While attending Southwest Texas State University, he met and married the love of his life, Jerrie Lynn Martin. Dan and Jerrie are the proud parents of two wonderful children, Tamera and Kirby. Throughout his life, Dan enjoyed golf, hunting and deep-sea fishing. After graduating from SWT in 1977, Dan joined his father's Right-of Way services firm, Project Land Services where he honed his Right-of Way skills for several years. He then served as Manager of Right-of-Way for Seagull Energy from 1982 until 1992 when he joined Contract Land Staff as Vice President and became President of the company in 1998. Under Dan's leadership the company was selected as the International Right-of Way Association (IRWA) Large Employer of the Year in 1999, reflecting Dan's commitment to improving benefits and working conditions for employees in the Right-of Way industry. He was a member of the IRWA Pipeline Committee, a certified IRWA instructor, IRWA Chapter 8 Professional of the Year for 2002 and was serving as President of IRWA Chapter 8 at the time of his death. Ewing, of Austin; sister Lynn Ewing Tramp and family, of Austin; brother W. Michael Ewing, of Rockdale, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Jerrie, Tamera, Kirby - I can only say if we had more "Dans" in the world, it would truly be a better place. Please take comfort in knowing what a wonderful man he was and the inspiration he was to so many. Love to you all, Karen

I worked with Dan at Seagull for many years. He was a great person to work with and the thing I remember most about Dan was his smile and he always had a kind or funny word to share. My prayers are with Dan's family.
