Danny Vara Obituary

Danny L. Vara
02/27/1949 - 02/03/2023
Danny Louie Vara, 73, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023, surrounded by his family. His spirit is carried on by children, Danielle Aleman (Thomas), Stefani Mayberry (John), Dianna Larios (Tino), and Steven Vara (Sarah); sister, Cynthia Ditto (Ken); best friend Dene Vara; and 11 grandchildren and numerous treasured nephews and friends. Danny is preceded in death by parents, Eddie and Ella Mae Vara, and sibling, Patricia Vara.
Danny was born on February 27, 1949, in Houston. As a boy, he played for the Houston Baby Oilers football team. He graduated from Jesse Jones High School and played football for Ranger Junior College. He transferred to play football for Sam Houston State University, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor of Business Administration.
Danny began his career at Brown and Root, as a personnel manager. Along with his best friend, Dene Vara, he owned and operated Casa de Vara Mexican Restaurant, serving up Baytown's most delicious Mexican food and margaritas. Danny later worked as Director of Safety for Wyatt Field Service Company. He retired in February of 2022, after 37 years of service there. Passionate about workplace safety and education, Danny was a founding member of the Health and Safety Council, where he served for over 25 years. He held various leadership positions and was twice elected Chairman of the Board.
Danny lived faithfully, loved unconditionally, and led with integrity. Above all, he loved his family; his children and grandchildren were his proudest accomplishments. He taught them to always love each other, keep God first, have hope, and look for the good in everyone. Danny exemplified these values and deeply treasured the community of friends who became family.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 13th, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at Crespo and Jirrels Funeral Home, 6123 Garth Rd., Baytown. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 14th, 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1907 Carolina Ave., Baytown.
