David Adickes Obituary

David Adickes
01/19/1927 - 07/13/2025
David Pryor Adickes was born in Huntsville, Texas, on January 19,1927, the third of four sons of Cecil Adickes and Marie Pryor Adickes. He passed away in Houston, Texas, on July 13, 2025.

He moved to Houston in 1951, where he quickly became one of the top artists in the Houston art scene. Beginning in 1983, David became known for his large public sculptures, many of which are currently on display in Houston and the surrounding area.

David was predeceased by his parents and three brothers: Robert, William, and Fred.
He is survived by his longtime life partner, Linda Wiley, his daughter Mary and her husband Guy Van Pelt, and his beloved twin granddaughters, Mary and Cynthia Van Pelt.

David also leaves behind to remember his life and legacy several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a myriad of friends and fans.

Thanks are extended by the family to his caregivers: the team at The Master Caregiver, the skilled nursing staff at Brookdale Galleria, and the staff of Brookdale at Home.

A Celebration of Life for David is being planned for the middle of October.

I am so sad to know that David has passed. I thought of him as I did my mother who passed away at 100: I thought he would be with us forever, and hoped that he would! What a talented man! I feel blessed that I got to know him and was able to have a personal guided tour of his shop. Rest in peace, David. You will be missed beyond words.

It goes fully noted that David´s final day was 7.13. He´s just that dialed-in (on the 713) to Houston and all with whom he shared his sparkle!

We HEART Houston and We LOVE David!

Hugs to Linda, Mary, and the family and all friends.
