David Elliott Obituary

David James Elliott Houston native David James Elliott, 70, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, June 7. David graduated from Kinkaid School, Vanderbilt University, Texas A&M Veterinary School, and South Texas College of Law, and his intelligence and devotion to others were manifest in his successful careers as veterinarian, realtor, and attorney. David was a loving partner to Greg, father to his sons, Gates and Clay, and grandfather to Clara, Eudora, and Jack.
A fine cook, traveling companion, and patient listener, David enjoyed fine art, good conversation, sailing, and the company of his friends and family. Whether stamping out the grape harvest or riding in a hot air balloon, he loved nothing more than sharing life's richest experiences with those he loved. His wise counsel and excellent taste will be missed from Round Top, Texas, to Caromb, France.
Committed throughout his life to supporting the arts and contributing to his community, David served on the board of the Houston Ballet and volunteered with the Houston Livestock Show. He was a long-standing director of The Falcons Estate (Battersea) Limited in London, England, where he lived from 1999.
Survived by his partner of 14 years, Greg Clifford; sons Gates (Annie) and Claybourne (Alissa) Elliott; grandchildren Clara, Eudora, and John Abbott Elliott. Preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and James Elliott; sister Ramona Elliot, and brother James Elliott, Jr.
Services will be held at 4:30 PM, Tuesday, June 17, at Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church, 6221 Main St., Houston, TX, 77030, (713) 529-6156

My Facebook posting from the Smithfield penny-farthing race of 7 years ago just popped up - this was where we were when we heard the shocking news of your passing. The sun still shines on your bench in Caromb. The wine you helped us make in what was sadly your last vintage is still drinking well. Forever remembered.

You will be greatly missed. Our lives were enriched by knowing you. Dom is sad that there is no more lounge time.

Arrived in London today and could only think about laughing our heads off together on a double decker bus. You were a gentle man, a kind spirit and simply a joy to be around. From the Krewe in Texas to the beaches of Spain and beergardens of Munich you were a joy to be around. My life is richer for having known you.

I met David at our South London bridge group. He was one of the kindest men I have ever met and a wonderful cook. I will miss him enormously. He spoke often of his partner Greg and all of his family. My thoughts are with you all.

My Darling David
It is never possible to find the words. I cannot imagine La Plantade without you now. Your smile, your laugh and your willing attitude to find obscure things in French hardware shops are going to be sorely missed. We will place your chair facing the vineyard so you can relax and watch us at harvest.
All our love, Auriel and Rob and Michele and Zoe xx
