My Dad,
As I sit here at the computer, thinking back, all the times I did not go to a family function, my heart hurts cause that is a time I can not have back. But I do remember all the fun times I had as a kid, going fishing with you and Paul Munn, hunting that 1 or 2 times freezing my toes off. You taking me to the warehouses near our house to ride the go cart you build for me. Being so surpised on my 16th birthday when I could finally drive my 70 camaro you build for me at Quality Valve. I had such joy in feeding you lunch and dinner, hoping you would soon be going home to Dayton. You were a good dad and you had a heart of gold. I will certainly miss you alot. I know I will see you again in Heaven. I promise to take care of Mom like I told you that Saturday night before God took you home. You were a hardworking man, that gave his family everything. We love you so much it hurts.
Love always and forever,
your daughter,
Cheryl Short Reedy

Mr. Short,
I know of you through your son, Dave. And it is through him that I feel your loss.
We all struggle with the thought that we are spending our few years on this Earth wisely, so that our presence is felt in future generations. It goes back to that universal search for purpose within us all.
With that idea in mind, I commend you for raising such a fine son, who never quits and will leave a great legacy in his own right.
I know you are smiling down now, as you can see the great legacy that you've left! Well done, Sir.

Best Paw-Paw Ever! This is Zak with his grandpa.

Dad,
I can't believe this day has come. You had an uncanny way of telling a joke or a story. I will miss that. Thank you for all that you did for me and my two Boys. Please watch over us as we journey thru Life. We love and will miss you dearly. Until we meet again.

Your Son,
-Little David

I can remember Uncle David expressing his opinions. It was entertaining to hear him. For sure, he had something to say. Although I wasn't around him all that much in the latter days of his earthly life, I have a heartfelt notion that he was ready to depart and cease from suffering. I will be praying for the loved ones still remaining. I know Jesus can give them a peace beyond human understanding, and I believe He can keep us strong as we finish our days....

Aunt Jaynie, Cheryl, David and all the rest:
My heart breaks for you all. Please know that you all are a trememdous blessing to me.
I appreciate all the wonderful times we have shared. Uncle David was more than an Uncle. He was like a Dad to me. He helped me, suggested ideas to me, paid for a surburban repair when I broke down in the country, He loved my husband and my kids.
This man called David: had a heart of gold; maybe rough on the edges at times but really a softie at heart. These last few weeks have been hard and even unbearable for yall, but I do not believe they were in vain.
I think God has blessed us with growing closer to Uncle David and each other. I will not soon forget feeding him his lunch and going too slow or making the bites too small. His crazy expression when I asked him if he wanted Bluebell. I like the way he called me "funny girl" when he woke up from that long sleep he had. And oh in the last 12 hours of his life, he was asking for me to "do that raise and lower the bed thing".
The greatest picture in my mind: watching the three of you love, minister and say goodbye to Uncle David.

David was my friend, my conrad, and more than a brother-in-law. We had a unique relationship, and he gave me away at my wedding in May. His generosity and humor brought me through hard times, and his sometimes spicy personality added color to my life. It was an honor to know him, and since I moved to Dayton 15 years ago, can't remember when he wasn't there for me. I love you David, and I'll miss you so much. Save me a place, cause I can't wait to "see" you. Love ya.
