Dr. Brewer was instrumental in saving our Daughter Shannon with the experimental medicine for her RA. We still have fond memories of his treatment and with his office staff.

Although I am writing this five years after Dr. Brewer's passing, I would like to share a story that happened 50 years ago next week. My two sons were born in Houston and Dr. Brewer was their pediatrician. When my younger son was born, my mother-in-law brought his four year old brother to the hospital to see me. She didn't know it was against hospital rules. When they left, a nurse came in and announced that they could not bring my baby to the room because a child had been there and my clothing was contaminated. I was very upset and couldn't stop crying. Soon after, Dr. Brewer came in on his rounds and asked what was wrong. He listened and then called the nurse and told her to bring my baby in immediately. He waited and talked to me until she brought him. He was so kind and reassuring. He jokingly said he might have to include the story in one of his books. I have no idea if that happened, but I have never forgotten what he did that day.

Dr. Earl Brewer was my doctor from the very begining I was diagnosed at the age of 2 years old in 1966 until I was 18 years old. He was not only there for me but was always there for my mother.
He was a dedicated doctor that did everything he could for his patience an worked tirelessly to do all that he could to fight JRA;
Too Doctor Brewer "Thank you for pulling so many rabbits out of the hat" and thank you!

Eulogy to Dad
Delivered 03-25-15
Our Dad was a very accomplished man. One of his accomplishments was bridge building. I bet ya'll didn't know he was an engineer, did you? He wasn't a mechanical engineer, but he was a relational engineer. He built bridges in order to connect disparate people, groups, and institutions for the purpose of achieving a common goal. One of those bridges he helped build was during the height of the Cold War. He was the principal investigator for the Pediatric Rheumatology Collaborative Study Group and therefore at the center of laying the foundation for scientific collaboration with his colleagues in the United States and Soviet Union. They wanted to study ways to help the children of the US and USSR cope with arthritis. The health interests of the children of each country transcended Cold War. One of the stories he liked to tell was when he would be on the phone with his Soviet counterpart. The US and USSR security personnel would frequently listen in on the conversations. During one call the connection became so poor that Dad said, You know, some of you guys are going to have to drop off the line because I can barely hear my colleague on the other end. Enough clicks were heard to the point that the line cleared up, and he and his colleague could continue their conversation.
Our Dad was non-political. He saw politics as a means to an end, and the end he had in mind was enabling children with chronic diseases to live a full and complete life. Back in the 80s I had an intimate Father/son talk with my Dad. I encourage everyone to set aside time to have some get-to-know-you time with your loved ones. I asked Dad what he believed. He said that he believed in Life and he believed in helping people, and leaving this world better than he found it. The way he lived his life shows that he did just that and that he loved life and enjoyed it with the love of his life, Ria. Dad considered Ria his partner, and integral to his life journey. She supported and enabled Dad to experience life to the fullest extent possible.
Earl Johnson Brewer has now embarked on another journey of life. Godspeed Husband, Father, and Friend. Godspeed. Amen.

Thank You Dr. Brewer!
To: Friends and Family of Dr. Earl Brewer:
My name is David Waldron (51), and when I was 11 years old I was diagnosed with JRA (Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis) which developed into Connective Tissue Disease including Scleroderma. Dr. Brewer treated me for approximately 5 years supporting me and my parents during my illness. My disease progressed and my kidneys began to fail but, Dr. Brewer aggressively treated my condition with the most current treatments, many of which he helped pioneer. Eventually my condition improved and although I bear the scars of my battle I have been symptom free for all of my adult life. God blessed Dr. Brewer with great knowledge and wisdom and I am a living testimony of that blessing and Dr. Brewer's commitment to healing.
As Dr. Brewer's family, I want you to be proud of him and take solace in knowing the blessing that he shared with me and the hundreds of other children under his care. Because of Dr. Brewer, I was able to continue my schooling, graduate college, have a successful career, marry a wonderful woman and raise three beautiful and healthy daughters to carry on.
Thank you Dr. Brewer for sharing your gift.
Forever grateful,

He was a person who touched so many lives. He touched my life. I am one of those parents with a child, now an adult, with learning disabilities. I learned so much from "Family to Family" about planning my daughter's future career plans. He was a GREAT man. Peace & Blessings, Sue Troutman

Earl's indomitable spirit, good humor, generosity, creativity, directness... these are the traits for which I will always remember him. Earl leaves more than a legacy of achievements. His endowment lives on in the lives of the many young people he mentored and the charitable causes he supported. I am a better person for knowing him. My deepest condolences to Ria and the family.

I was very blessed and privileged to be a guest of Dr. and Ria Brewer for Christmas dinner in 2013. I was treated to Ria's wonderful and thoughtful hospitality, and Dr. Brewer's warmth and great sense of humor. It was one of the best Christmas memories of my adult years. I enjoyed meeting and sharing the company of some members of this beautiful family. You are in my loving prayers. May God grant you His peace, presence and assurance Jesus is our Lord and Shepherd.
