Fr. Bader was entirely too fond of really terrible puns, so he indulged in them often for the pleasure of seeing me wince. We loaned each other books, mutually deplored overdone beef, agreed that dark chocolate is superior to lesser chocolates, drank his famous "Trinity" (equal parts gin and dry and sweet vermouths) together, and had many drawn-out discussions about 1) archaeology (especially Egyptology), 2) the good and bad of Sherlock Holmes stories, 3) the many failings of humanity, 4) music of all types, and--probably most importantly--5) our shared love for the University of St. Thomas. He laughed about my utter inability to keep houseplants alive for more than a few weeks. I made him fudge and grilled-ham-and-cheese sandwiches. He was my friend. I will miss him.

Fr. Bader loved this university and did so much for everybody associated with it, the magnificently researched in and exra muros. exhibits, the tours he conducted. He will be missed.

Each time I sit to talk with a student on one of the benches around the mall, I think of their builder, Fr. Bader. Now I shall add a little prayer for the man who always had a cheerful smile and word of greeting. May he rest in peace!

Over the years I had many enjoyable times with Ed. He was always pleasant and quick with a witticism. When I last visited him in the hospital, I was impressed by the keen appreciation by his Friends of Archeology.
May the hope of the Resurrection be his and sustain all who knew Ed.

The University of St. Thomas has lost a great friend. Working with Father Bater was always a joy, and in meeting him at many University Functions always left me with JOY in my heart with the seed of wisdom he shared each and evry time I saw him. I know he has found rest in the arms of our Lord and Our Mother Mary Most Holy.

Ed was a fine Basilian and friend. The parishes of our youth (St. Brigid's and Epiphany) were neighbors and we shared many memories. He was generous with his time and energy on my behalf, especially in Theology and at St. Thomas. May he rest in peace.

Ed Bader was my friend, and I shall miss him greatly. We actually spent more time together after the onset of his ilness than before. I visited him in the hospital shortly before his death. Although he was suffering, he retained his wonderful since of humor and a remarkable fighting spirit. His contributions to so many people with an interest in archeology and the extent to which he presented the University of St. Thomas to the community should not be overlooked. But all of this was overshadowed by his personal warmth, his humor, and most of all his friendship.

Although I never had the opportunity to have Father Bader, I appreciate all the Basilians have done for me and my family. My husband and I owe a great deal to the Bailians for the formation we received at UST.

Dear Family of Ed Bader,
Ed and I began Basilian life together in Rochester, N.Y. in 1952. We spent four years together at Assumption University. Our next meeting was in 1963, the year of our ordination. Our ways parted after that but we would meet occasionally and have grand talks about family and friends. I send you my sympathy and prayers.

Father Bader's dedication and interest to Archeology was contagious. Because of his unending pursuit of putting Archeology and people together in the form of the Friends of Archeology, he opened up a new world of intellectual curiosity for me along with the opportunity of meeting a great bunch of people. Thanks Father Bader- job well done.

I met you during your last stay at the Methodist Hospital. I enjoyed the time that we spent, those times were very special because I never came this close to a priest. That meant the world to me and If you noticed I had a gazillon questions and Father Bader answered every time. I held his hand for the last time last week before class and I'm glad I did because you were my friend. Go rest in Our Heavenly Father arms and I see you in Heaven some day.
