Estelle Spector Obituary

ESTELLE A. SPECTOR, 82, passed away on August 1, 2006, in Houston. She was born in New York City on March 19, 1924, the first child of David and Miriam Mellin, who had emigrated to New York from Russia and Austria, respectively. Estelle is survived by her husband, Bernard (Bernie) Spector, M.D., of El Lago, TX; daughter, Sara Ruth Spector, of Waco, TX; son, Ivan Charles Spector, M.D., of Houston, TX; son, Lawrence Neil Spector and wife Elisabeth and their children, Benjamin and Emily, of El Lago, TX. She was pre-deceased by her sister Susie in 1983. Estelle graduated from Hunter College in 1944 while working her way through school as a model and as a receptionist at the Paramount Theatre and the Dramatic Workshop. She married Bernie in 1953 and devoted the rest of her life to her children and grandchildren. She always said that marrying Bernie was the best thing she had ever done. Estelle and Bernie moved from the New York area to Texas in 1975. When Bernie retired from his Austin medical practice in 1994, they moved to El Lago, Texas, where they built a home so that they could live nearer to their children. Estelle loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren, Benjamin and Emily, whom she loved more than anything in the world. She also held dear the many friends she made while living in El Lago. Estelle was strengthened by Bernie's selfless devotion and care, especially during her 1998 battle with cancer and during her recent illness. She will be deeply missed. Private graveside service on August 3rd at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas.

Dear Estelle, Sara always said to me: "You sound just like my mother." That was the best compliment. I loved talking to you on the phone. You were wonderful and shall be greatly missed. Keep your wonderful sense of humor. Love, Jane Lundy Belazi

Mom, you took care of me when I was ill and cherished me when I was well. Your love was totally selfless. I hope I will make you proud in the future.

I love you and will miss you so very much. You had a special way of making everyone around you smile. I'm glad you got a chance to meet the kids. Thank you for taking such good care of Sara and I during college and law school. You know Sara and I will always be connected like sisters and take care of each other. The kids and I have been praying for you and your family. Love you always. Annette and family.
