Gary Miller Memoriam
10/19/1950 - 08/13/2024
Dr. Gary Arthur Miller passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on August 13, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is greatly missed each day.
A lifelong dedication to education guided his life and took him around the world during his thirty-year career as an international accounting professor, CPA and researcher. Gary was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree and also a Masters in Business Administration from California State University - Chico. Next, he received his PhD in Accounting from Santa Clara University. He was a prolific researcher and composed hundreds of academic publications throughout his career focused on international accounting.
Dr. Gary Miller was an accounting professor at many universities including: California State University - San Jose, the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, Texas A&M International and California State University - Bakersfield.
Gary will be best remembered for his intense love of sports and his family. He relished the opportunities to coach, watch and play sports with his son and granddaughters, which were his best memories. He lovingly and diligently coached his son's youth sports teams for many years including soccer, basketball and baseball. Gary eagerly awaited the dawn of each new sports season for his granddaughters and loved telling his friends about their accomplishments.
He loved traveling the globe with his wife of 50 years, Deborah Miller, and their son, Gary S. Miller, while pursuing their hobbies of sightseeing, snorkeling and rafting - continually searching for their next new adventure.
While his health declined in recent years, his joy and appreciation of travel never diminished. He enjoyed watching every 49ers game and passionately supported the Houston Rockets.
In his memory and honor, his family will establish an academic endowed scholarship in his name at California State University - Chico, to assist the next generation of business students.
