Dear Lynea, Cheryl and Candace and other family members, Please accept my sincere and heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your father,Gerald. I want you to know that my late husband Norman and I were pleased to meet your Dad on two occasions and we thought he was a most friendly fellow. Norm was a true Bear fan and his delight in talking to your Dad was mighty high I have to tell you. Wonderful and warm memories of Gerald will keep him ever close to you throughout the coming years. This I know is true. Much love and a hug for all from Betty Ann

Dear Candy, Lynea, and Cheryl;

I am so sorry to hear of your father's death. He was so much fun! He was such a good friend to my dad before his death. When you lived next door to us, he would get my dad out of the house to play basketball in the driveways. I think that is one of my first memories as a child, going to a game at Rice where daddy and he were on the same team. It was only an exhibition game and daddy was so small against your dad, but it was so much fun!

I know you will miss him very much.

Much Love

I wanted to pay my respects to Mr. Weatherly and his family. As a fan of SMU football, he is remembered by many Mustangs for his football playing days against Doak Walker and Kyle Rote. My father was a 'yell leader' at SMU when Mr. Weatherly played at Rice and I'm sure he saw him play. I pray that this time is comforted for each of you with the grace of God and I wanted to pay my respects and condolences.

Dear Weatherly Family -

The memories flood. I was eight years old in 1949. My parents would take me to the old stadium to watch the Owls. That was a magical season. The team - Froggie Williams, Tobin Rote, Joe Watson, Gerald and all the rest including Jess Neely, Joe Davis and Eddie Wojecki were my heros...every bit the stature of Roy Rogers!

I remember the Rice-SMU game played in Dallas. Gerald made a great tackle on Doak Walker and the Owls went on to win it something like 33-7. Froggie's field goal against Texas. These guys never let any of us down...not once.

God Speed Gerald Weatherly. You touched young and small lives in ways you never knew. I for one am grateful for your legacy and what you and all your team mates meant - and still mean - to so many of us...your friends you never met.
