Harold Jones Obituary

Harold Jones
04/18/1932 - 03/31/2023
Harold D. Jones, age 90, passed away peacefully at Houston Hospice on March 31, 2023 in Houston, Texas. Harold was born on April 18, 1932 in Rutland, Wisconsin to William and Alice Jones. After graduating high school Harold joined the Air Force and proudly served his country during the Korean War. After his service years he resided in Racine, Wisconsin, where he and Barbara raised their family. Harold was employed by J. I. Case for over three decades. A promotion to Director of Systems and Data Processing with Tenneco Inc. relocated him to Houston, Texas, where he spent the remainder of his life.

Harold was an avid reader and a sports enthusiast; the Green Bay Packers, the Chicago White Sox and the Houston Astros were amongst his favorite teams. He was well known for the detailed statistical data he kept on everything baseball and football. Harold was frequently seen around his neighborhoods and Bayou Bend while on his daily walks. He was privileged to visit Washington D.C. recently as part of Honor Flight recognizing our veterans. Harold was an active member of the Masons; he achieved Master Mason and had over 65 years dedicated service to the Masons; Oregon Lodge #0151 and then the Grand Lodge of Texas #1037. He took great pride in being able to participate in many graveside services in the Houston area to honor his fellow Masons. Harold was also very involved in his church, Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, where he worked in the office weekly and attended Sunday school and services regularly. His faith brought him great comfort during his final days.

Harold is survived by his children Connie (Maudemarie Clark) Jones of Hamilton, N.Y.; Steven Jones of Madison, Wisconsin; Robin Jones of West Orange, N.J.; and his siblings Robert Jones, David (Evelyn) Jones, Dale (Carol) Jones, Gary Jones, Betty (Steve) Jicinsky, Marvin (Kathy) Jones, Kathy (Greg) Statz, sister-in-law Shirley Jones and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Those that preceded Harold in death are his loving wives Barbara Jones and infant son, and Ann Jones; loving siblings William Jones, Eldon Jones, Mary Ann Burke, Dorothy Jones and Ronald Jones; sisters-in-law Della Jones, Shirley Jones, and Fran Jones.

We are forever grateful for Harold's extended family in Houston; Marilyn McPhail, Mark (Rhonda) McPhail and all the children and grandchildren. He took so much pleasure and pride in all of their activities and accomplishments.

There will be a graveside service for family and friends at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Oregon, Wisconsin in August 2023. Memorial donations can be made to Houston Hospice or the American Diabetes Association.

We were fortunate enough to have been neighbors to Harold and Barbara for many years. They were delightful,
bright, and interesting people with high standards and great loyalty to our community. You could always count on Harold and Barbara. We saw their faith and their resolve during Barbara´s illness. They were an inspiration to all.

I knew Harold for several years through the Houston SABR chapter of baseball history folks. He was one of the first people I met upon joining the chapter many years ago, and he remained one of those I was most gladdened by seeing. We often sought each other out to sit next to at meetings. He had a sly wit and was always a wonderful, pleasant and interesting conversationalist. That is a fine attribute in a person. I wish I had gotten to visit with him more frequently, but I value having known him. A good man. Godspeed, Harold.
