Harry Sweeney Obituary

Harry Louis Sweeney
1924-2015
Harry Louis Sweeney, 90, of Navasota, passed away Tuesday, August 18th at his farm surrounded by his loving family. A Funeral Mass in celebration of his life will be held on Friday, August 21st at 10:30am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Plantersville. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 9:00am that morning up until the beginning of Mass. Rev. Ed Kucera will be the celebrant. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.
Harry was born on December 8, 1924 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Harry and Mary Rose Sweeney. When he was eight years old, his family moved to Houston, Texas where he attended St. Ann's Catholic School and St. Thomas High School, where he graduated in 1942. He attended Texas A&M University and was called to serve his country in the United States Army. He was the recipient of three Bronze Stars as wells as a Bronze Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster; a Conduct Medal and a Purple Heart. Upon his honorable discharge, he enrolled in University of Houston and obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration.
Harry was the owner and CEO of EGC Corp until his retirement, and remained a partner in NGC until they sold in 2013. He enjoyed a good game of golf, and loved the Houston Texans and the Texas Aggies.
Mr. Sweeney is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Ludeen; daughters and sons-in-law Allison and Chris Snyder of Ft. Worth, Polly and Greg Craddock of The Woodlands, Shelly and Tommy Rapsilver of Conroe and Donna and Todd Arthur of Navasota; sons and daughter-in-law Chris and Dodie Sweeney of Alpine; grandchildren Scott, Molly and Kelly Snyder, Trey Rapsilver and Paige Rapsilver Warren; Forrest Fisher and his little love Sydney Arthur, and Jeffrey Craddock; cousin Kitty Charlton, numerous nieces and nephews and extended family Lisa Kunneman and Mark Erwin and Mike Erwin.
He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Mary Margaret Erwin, Mary Ann Moroney and Carmel Smith and faithful canine companion, Chloe.
Serving as pallbearers are Forrest Fisher, Jose Gomez, Scott Snyder, Jeffrey Craddock, Chris Snyder and Mark Erwin.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to those who lovingly cared for him, Susan, Mary, Sharon, Debbie, Ina and Ethel. His daughter, Shelly, took a leave of absence from her job at M. D. Anderson to care for him, and along with her sister, Donna, they took him to appointments, picked up his prescriptions and attended to a variety of his daily needs. They were his saving grace this past year.
