Hillary Stratton Obituary

Hillary Farish Stratton
1968-2014
Our beloved, Hillary, died peacefully at home surrounded by her children, siblings and parents on Friday, the 12th of December 2014. Her strong faith and ours assure that she joined her Creator in serenity and love. Hillary was born in Houston to adoring parents, Sarah and Will Farish the 20th of November 1968. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her four precious sons, Ford, Bayard, Wilson and Jack as well as her siblings, Mary Johnston, Laura Chadwick and Bill Farish; her two brothers in law; one sister in law; and sixteen nieces and nephews, all of whom adored her. Hillary graduated from The Purnell School and Pine Manor College. After college, she spent a joyful year traveling with the singing group, Up with People, an experience she would recount again and again with her trademark giggles and sharp wit. Hillary served on the board of The Children's Museum of Houston, and remained active as a volunteer, donor and advocate for this institution throughout her life.
Hills, as she was known to her family and innumerable friends, had a profound love for life and her enduring smile radiated joy and happiness to all whom she met. Not surprisingly, Hillary was known as Fairy Godmother to her many Godchildren. Most of all, Hillary loved her four sons. Their well being was her utmost priority. She was happiest when in their midst, listening, laughing, teaching and encouraging. Hillary's supreme gift as a photographer is evident in the hundreds of beautiful photographs she took of her favorite subject, her boys. Throughout her life, Hillary especially loved her time in Boca Grande, Florida, where the entire group gathered several times a year to relax, enjoy each other's company and revel in the beauty around them.
Family and friends will gather for a celebration of Hillary's life Wednesday the 17th of December from five o'clock in the afternoon until half past seven o'clock in the evening at the Houston Country Club.
A memorial service will be held at the Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston at eleven o'clock in the morning on Thursday, the 18th of December with The Reverend Dr. Douglas W. Richnow, Sr. Associate Rector, officiating.
The family is eternally grateful to Maddie Bunch, R. N. and Emily Barker, M.D. for their amazing and loving support during these past few months and to the wonderful nurses who continually cared for Hillary.
In lieu of the customary remembrances, Hillary requested that all contributions be made to the Children's Museum of Houston, 1500 Binz Street, Houston, Texas 77004.

today is def one of those days in USA when I miss Hillary's kind of 'bring everyone together' kindness, mischievous sense of humour. you know you lived a meaningful life when years after you're gone people are still saying 'why don't we all be a little bit more like how Hilary Farish was (no snark, no biting, no mean gossip' focus on all the good fun that brings us all here together.

I met Hillary in Boston in 1988 while she was attending Pine Manor College. She was kind and truly beautiful. She is one of the best people I ever met. We dated in 1988. There was no better lady I met in those days. I am sorry to learn of her passing. She had faith in 1988. I hope she is enjoying heaven and I hope to see her there one day.

I have very fond memories of Hillary and her siblings from when I helped take care of them, as children. She was as sweet a little girl as you would ever meet and am so sorry to hear of her passing. The last time I spoke to her was in an ice cream parlor in the River Oaks area of Houston, right across the street from where I went to high school. God Bless you Hillary and you brother and sisters too!

We all know how much Hillary loved Texas And how very many friends - who loved her so much - she had in NY, So when this Ted Cruz v NY thing came up today, for a second I thought of what Hillary's reaction would be, and I laughed. The type of girl who could bring 2 opposing sides together in good humour - in stitches, She and that bright political sense of humour is so missed by her NY friends today. I hope her children always know how much she was adored by her very many friends everywhere, and in particular in NY.

I am so enormously sorry to have just heard about Hillary's passing today. Hillary's warmth was so great and constant, and her way of encouraging the best in others, it's something that I will never forget, always be grateful for, and in her honour will make more of an effort to emulate.

I am so sorry for what you, her family, must be feeling and hope that the feeling of loss will give way only to the happiest thoughts quickly. Spreading joy, confidence and enthusiasm is all she would want for anyone and everyone.

Hillary is definitely missed.

Mary, Dennis, Maggie, and extended family, Heaven has truly been blessed by Hillary's presence.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In my Father's house there are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” John 4:1-4

Poem - He only takes the best

Hillary, my "Sunshine"
God saw you getting tired,
The cure was not to be
He wrapped you in His loving Arms,
And whispered "Come to Me"
You suffered much in silence,
Your spirit did not bend
You faced your pain with courage,
Until the very end
You tried so hard to stay with us
Your fight was not in vain
God took you to His loving Home
And freed you from your pain
A golden heart stopped beating,
Two working hands at rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
HE ONLY TAKES THE BEST!!!

Dear Mary, Bill, Laura and family of Hillary,
David and I were so sorry to hear of the death of your sister. Hillary was always a delightful, humble, and joyful person to be with, she always made me laugh and secretly wish I possessed her precious childlike love of life. I know you will miss her so deeply. But I am so thankful, as you stated in her obituary, that you know that because of her faith in God she is absolutely whole and healed and seeing Jesus and all of His perfect love for her face to face right now and forever more!! I know that your grief is heavy, but I pray that the knowledge that not only is Hillary with the Lord eternally, but that you can be with her again brings you hope and comfort. We will be praying for her boys and all of you the supernatural peace , comfort and hope that only God can provide. Please let us know how we can help and serve you in the days ahead. with our love in Him, Audrey and David Gow

I met sweet Hillary on both of our very first day at Purnell. When our parents pulled away to drive home we were the only two out saying goodbye at the time. We looked at each other and just started to cry. We formed a friendship at that moment that we could never let go of. We lifted each other up ,we held each other when we were down, we raised one another up we loved each other as sisters unconditionally. She became a part of my family. Even came home with me for Thanksgiving one year. so from the bottom of my heart and my parents and my family I now have to say goodbye to one of the dearest people I have ever known. Hillary will live on in my heart for the rest of my life. Girlfriend you made huge difference in my life. my prayers are with the boys and your family. Hills - My heart was broken to hear the news. I knew you as a friend at Purnell. Hills or what she asked us all to call her was "frog" as she loved those happy little critters and said they were always smiling and full of life. Just as I will always remember our Froggy, full of life, always smiling and she had one of the biggest hearts that she shared with all. Lots of fond memories, but mostly sharing the love of singing in the Shoots and Strawberries choir.
To Hills' family may you take each day at a time and remember this lovely woman/mother/daughter as a strong and amazing lady who was full of life, love, talent and genuinely a kind soul who never judged anyone and was always there to support and love the people in her life.

Hillary was a member of the Punell family. In the late 1980's we all grew up like sisters, in a tiny place called Pottersville. Night and day we all lived in community, each person held a powerful place. We called Hillary frog, we all loved her. She'd show up with positive energy and optimism...always.

We are all reeling from her passing. When you are that close with someone once, you pick up right where you left off, like it was just yesterday that you were going through life in the same space, and though things externally are transformed, relationally nothing ever changed. It's really hard for us to fathom that we don't get to pick up and reminisce with someone we all treasured so much. Some people stand out, and this girl was one, sincerely loved by all.

I am a mother of 4 sons who fought my own battle. I naively assumed she'd win the battle but I see, once again God had other plans. I believe in Heaven and I will celebrate her presence there even though I will mourn for her loved ones here who will miss those life moments with that precious soul.

To her boys I pray you will heal in due time and that her charm will bless this earth, through you. Though I don't know you, I know you are special.

Praying for you all.
