James Murphy Obituary

Murphy
James (Jimmy) Patrick Murphy, Sr., loving son, brother, father, husband and friend passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2011. He was born in 1938 to Howard and Adelphia-Heath Murphy in Liberty, Texas, the oldest of five children.
He met his wife, Doris, at Galena Park High School and they married in 1956. They were married 55 years. They lived in Woodforest and raised two children, James Patrick (Pat) and Julie Ann Murphy.
Jimmy worked with his father as an iron worker, where he helped build the Astrodome, Humble Oil Building and many other high-rise buildings in downtown Houston. He spent the remainder of his career working in metal inspection and fabrication. He enjoyed travel, and his work took him all over the country. He worked in Venezuela for two years where he enjoyed the culture and beauty of South America. He had a great love of nature and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family.
His strong spirituality and love of God prompted him to fulfill a lifelong dream of reading the bible which nurtured him during his illness.
He is survived by his wife, Doris LaVerne Allen-Murphy, children, Julie Ann Murphy of Houston and James Patrick Murphy Jr. of Austin, grandchildren, Ryan Patrick and Jack Warren Murphy of Austin, sister, Patricia Dell Thibodeaux of Baytown, and brother William Dewitt Murphy of Houston.
Jimmy made friends with all who knew him with his great sense of humor and kindness to others. We will miss him dearly.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, June 17, 2011 at Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, 13207 Orleans Street, Houston, Texas, followed by a reception.

BE STILL

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

Dear Daddy,
I love you very much and miss you deeply. Everything happened so fast....I've been so sad---missing you so much. I'm wanted to write this earlier, but I just couldn't face it...until now. I know that God must have been "calling you home" because you seemed at peace with everything that was in your path, but still had hope and faith through it all. You said that God was with you and that he will protect us...he is. Oh....that is so wonderful. It was so hard for me to understand and accept things as they were, but I knew that no matter what happens----with God's love---it will be ok....some day. Thankyou Daddy...for giving me that strong foundation of God and faith that I will continue to carry on through-out my life. I'm going to need it. Dad, I'll never forget all the beautiful places that we traveled to...You said that it was important for you to show us the National Parks (God's country)and that we would carry that adventure with us and it would make a differance in life....."how did you know that...?" You always knew things like that.....you were always a wise man..before your time. I learned so many things from you and will always remember every thing you tought me! You will always be in my heart...and close by, I love you Daddy, Julie

Dear Pat and family,

May you celebrate the life of your father with loving memories and potent lessons passed along to carry on his presence in this world. This thinly veiled window offers a bittersweet time of letting go, grieving your loss and accepting the love and kindness others offer during this very difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you travel this uneven road, challenging your balance, falling and returning to stand again. Tina Moody
