Jerry Putnam Obituary

JERRY F."PUTT" PUTNAM, 73, passed away unexpectedly on August 29, 2008. He was a native Houstonian and self-made success in every way. He is survived by his loving wife and childhood sweetheart of 56 years, Bobbie Dale, who he saw one day swinging on her parents porch when he was 13 years old and said "I am going to marry you one day." At the age of 17, he did, embarking on a remarkable journey raising four children. He is also survived by daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Larry Deem; son and daughter-in-law Jerry D. and Shawn Putnam; son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey J. and Julie Putnam; son-in-law James H. Lightfoot, and grandchildren Heather, Haley and Hilary Deem, Cody and Cameron Putnam, Lauren and Graysen Putnam, and Brian Lightfoot. He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Karen Renee' Lightfoot in 1999. Jerry graduated from Austin High School and attended the University of Houston before deciding to go into business on his own. He was a successful real estate investor and served as a Director of Investors Savings and Loan for several years. No job was ever too small or big for Jerry, and he took pride in accomplishments that most would never attempt. Never one to sit still, Jerry remained hard at work until his passing. He enjoyed every day, relishing both the good times and the bad that he shared with his children, grandchildren, and friends. A member of Golfcrest Country Club for over 30 years, Jerry enjoyed spending his free time on and off the golf course with Bobbie and good friends. His most happy days were spent looking forward to and traveling with his family and closest companions. All would agree, he knew how to have fun and always found a way to be the life of any party. He loved the outdoors, and was always the ready buddy to go fishing or hunting on a moments notice. A man could find no better friend or confidant than Jerry. He treasured his family, friends and employees, and all that they did for him. Describing Jerry as a good man does not do justice to how he always tried to better himself and his family every single day. He was the best of men, and the most loyal of friends. Everyone knew Jerry was a proud Aggie father, grandfather, and devoted supporter of all things Texas A&M. Jerry was a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Friendswood, Texas, Park Place Masonic Lodge No. 1172, The Houston Valley of the Scottish Rite, and the Arabia Shrine Temple. Our beloved father, friend and "Dido" will be missed. For those desiring, memorial contributions in the name of Jerry may be made to Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Friendswood, Tx. Family visitation will be held 5-9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale, Houston, Tx (713) 928-5141, with services to follow there the next day at 11 a.m. Should severe weather threaten the Houston area, please inquire with Forest Park Lawndale to confirm all service arrangements.

My sincere sympathy to you and all the family on the death of your husband, father, etc. Losing a loved one is never easy.

I know Putnam and Putman may not be the same family, most family history researchers collect both, as they may be simply variations in spelling.

Since the obit in the paper did not list Jerry Putnam's parents' names, will you please let me know, so his family tree can connect with the 1930 census?

And if you are interested in getting more information on his family history then, we will try to help you obtain it. I will forward the information to a fellow researcher in Mass., who has extensive Putnam/Putman files already.

Dean Putnam Family,

While I only had the pleasure to be around Jerry a few times, he made a lasting impression on me and I know that my parents (Bob and Jan Sheldon) hold him, Bobbie and the entire family in the highest regards. Please know that you are all in my continued thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.

Love,
Allison

Bobbie I know you must feel like you lost a part of yourself. From high school you both taught the rest of us what real love was all about. I will ask the God that gave me strength to pass that same strength on to you and yours.

Bobby, you and your whole family are in my heart and prayers. I'll miss Jerry's wicked sense of humor and kind heart, and especially the wonderful "Dido" stories Lauren and Graysen tell me. But I can't begin to imagine the hole this leaves in your lives. He was a great and good man.

Brenda and Larry, I was sorry to hear about your dad passing away. May the Lord bring you comfort and peace during this sad and stressful time. May you know the peace and hope that only He can give because only He overcame death, and only He can fulfill the promise of eternal life to those who truly entrust their lives to Him.

My family is crushed by the loss of Mr. Putnam. Dito and the entire Putnam family had been in my life as I long as I can remember, I believe since 1974, which I would have been 7 years old. Dido, you will be missed... God Bless you and at least you are home with Jesus. Scotty

Mrs. Putt-putt, it seems just like yesterday that you sat on the chaise lounge at the Little League field pregnant with Jeff. So much has happened from that time until now, but when you think back, only the good memories come to mind. You and Mr. Putt-putt’s friendship with my parents have meant the world to our whole family. It’s time to celebrate Jerry’s life and honor a man who lived life to it’s fullest. He will be missed by all. We love you.

Bobbie and Jerry are our dearest friends. There is no expression of how much we will miss him. He and Bobbie were one of the first to welcome us to Pearland 16 years ago and have been steadfast friends ever since. Our prayers are with Bobbie and her entire loving family. Bobbie, we are "in the position" for whenever and whatever you need.
