John Rambeau Obituary

Dr. John C. Rambeau, Jr
07/15/1931 - 10/18/2024
John Corwin Rambeau, Jr
(1931-2024)
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John C. Rambeau, Jr. MD who died peacefully on October 18, 2024, at the age of 93.
John was born on July 15, 1931 in Boston to John C Rambeau, Sr., and Margaret Davis Rambeau. The family lived in Newton, Mass., where John attended Newton High School. He received an undergraduate education at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. While there, he was in the ROTC and a proud member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He continued his education with a medical degree from Tufts University in Boston, much to the delight of his mother. It was at Tufts, during a dance that included nurses, where he met his future wife, Kathryn Rose Delaney.
John and Kay were married in Boston and soon after John finished medical school, they moved to Morocco for John's military service in the Air Force. After two years overseas, they moved to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. John completed his radiology residency there at Wilford Hall Hospital. He honorably concluded his military commitment as a Major in 1966 and moved to Houston. He joined Memorial Radiology Associates and practiced with them until his retirement.
John was passionate about everything he did. He enjoyed golf as a member of Lakeside Country Club and the family often celebrated special events at the Sunday brunch there. He loved to paint, collect stamps and research family genealogy. When John started a new hobby, he went at it wholeheartedly, getting all the supplies and books needed to be successful. Other pursuits included woodworking, gardening, and model airplanes, just to name a few.
Throughout his life, John was known for his love of family, often taking everyone on adventures and vacations, including diving in Cozumel and Grand Cayman and several ski trips to Breckenridge, Colo. He is remembered for his life-long pursuit of education and learning. When his granddaughter Kendall became a teacher, he made sure her classroom was well stocked and included an ant farm. He loved to expand his knowledge of world politics, science and language. He kept a binder with current notes, news, and maps about a wide variety of topics. He had a remarkable ability to put everyone at ease with his quick wit and charm, and was greatly admired by friends, family, and colleagues alike. He left a wonderful legacy and will be deeply missed.
John is survived by his wife, Kathryn Delaney Rambeau, and children, Kimberly Rambeau Ellis (spouse - Steve), John C. Rambeau, III (spouse - Sherri), Robert Clayton Rambeau and Jenny Rambeau Snelling (spouse - Mark); son-in-law Marc Verschuren; sister, Jean Rambeau Little, brother-in-law Thomas E Delaney (spouse - Linda); sixteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his daughter, Donna Rambeau Verschuren and his daughter-in-law, Anna Plummer Rambeau. John's grandchildren are JT Ellis, Nick Ellis, Carol Ellis, Chloe Verschuren McMath (spouse - Garrett), Karl Verschuren, Tyler Rambeau, Hilary Rambeau (spouse - Ebrahim Paryavi), Christian Rambeau, Rachel Rambeau, Ava Rambeau, Kendall Snelling Thomas (spouse - Jeffrey), David Snelling, Carter Snelling (spouse - Landry Wagner Snelling), Mary Kate Snelling, and Corey Snelling and two great-grandchildren, Emory McMath and Shelby McMath.
We will celebrate John's life at 1 PM Tuesday, November 26th in the Hankamer Chapel, Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway. His ashes will be buried at a later date at the family plot in Woodstock, Vt.

Dr. John Rambo was a great contributor to the genealogy of the Rambo family and will now be included in the next edition of the book.
Wow, was he ever an impressive guy, and to think that my wife and I winter at Lake Conroe and could have enjoyed meeting him, had we known earlier.
We send our sympathies to his wife and children, who will be missing him severely.

What a great guy! Grateful that I was able to share many rounds of golf with John, Bob Webb and Sam McManus. I will miss them all.

It has been a pleasure to know the Rambeau family since 1978. I send my condolences to the family and Mrs. Kathryn Rambeau for Dr. Rambeau´s passing. I grew up and went to school with Rob and Jenny and enjoyed our friendship and my time at their house for birthday parties and spending the night. I fondly remember Dr. Rambeau and how kind he was. I appreciated that he was genuinely interested in you when he spoke to you. I played soccer and volleyball with Jenny and I remember him cheering us on. Praying for the family and for Mrs. Rambeau during this most difficult time. Sending my love to y´all as well.

I was very sad to hear of Dr. Rambeau's passing. He was always very kind and soft spoken but he was fun to talk to because of his many interests and hobbies.
The wood working phase was a surprise to me.
I'll always remember him for his gentleness of spirit.
Rest in peace
