Juan Castillo Obituary

Juan Castillo
01/12/1965 - 03/16/2024
Juan Alberto Castillo was born on January 12th, 1965, in Managua, Nicaragua. He passed away peacefully on March 16th, 2024, as he went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

After coming to the United States, Juan attended Episcopal High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and graduated from LSU in 1987.

Juan loved Jesus! Juan was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church, Houston, where he was a beloved leader in many areas of the church. He compassionately presented the gospel to men in local jails for over 15 years. Juan built and maintained friendships with others through his steadfast commitment to the Tuesday morning Bible study group. His example of devoted service was seen every Sunday as he served in both Bible study class and in the Winning Walk prayer ministry, being convinced that service to Jesus was a great reward.

Juan's eternal life began when he accepted Christ as his personal savior. His earthly life was never the same. He will be missed by all those who came in contact with him and were the recipients of his love and devotion.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Second Baptist Church, Houston, 6400 Woodway Drive in the Sanctuary on April 5th, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. A live stream of the service will be available on Friday, April 5 at 12:45 pm. www.second.org/liveevents

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to LightHouse Prison Ministries or to Second Baptist Church (Winning Walk Ministries).

Our condolences to Juans family, we are sad to hear this news. I worked with Juan at Unum 20 years ago for a long time and he was always so energetic and enthusiastic. His cheerfulness lit up the room. Prayers for the family.

The best brother one could have wished for. Sad we were apart for so many years, but when talking over the phone was like having you there next to me. You were amazing.

I met Juan when I was working at Unum more than 20 years ago. He was a great colleague and a great friend. We kept in touch throughout the years after I left Unum checking in every onece in a while specially around tax season lol. He always had such a great advice for my husband and I. He truly was a great soul gone too soon. Juan, you will be greatly missed! Our most sincere condolences to his wife and family you are in our prayers.

We will always be thankful for all the knowledge Juan shared with us and miss him and his upbeat energy. Our office will never be the same.
I met Juan in 2019, as he advised us on handling occupational claims. There was always a lesson learned, regardless of the claim´s outcome. He always made us feel so successful as an HR Department. Juan had such a unique and persistent way of handling situations. We either found something to chuckle about, or his positive feedback and compliments made me feel like a super lawyer.... which I´m not, but I know God used Juan to bring me confidence boosts. Juan had such an unforgettable laugh. I remember the times we laughed longer than usual over the silliest things, like little school children, lol. I´m forever grateful for the memories of Juan that I´ll always cherish.

Juan worked at Bertran Engineers, and I met him when I worked at Unum. I was selling employer insurance policies . Juan bought every type of policy we had for Bertran. He kept calling me and we started a friendship, and I would always tell him I don't have anything else to sell you leave me alone. .....In a joking manner.......He was so persistent I said he should work at Unum and he got a job there and stayed in the insurance business. He also did my taxes for 25 years. Juans story on how he came to America is amazing. What he did and how he did it should be made into an inspiring movie. I will miss our conversations that always started the same way. I would accuse him of tacking my tax refund and movie to Mexico, he would always respond calling me Sling my American friend. A wonderful man that left us to early.
