1952-2015
Kathleen (Kaki) DeSilva, the longest living quadriplegic with a high level C1/C2 spinal cord injury, passed away at 63 on August 7 in Houston. There will be a celebration of Kaki's life and her many accomplishments on Saturday August 22nd at The Heights Villa - 3600 Michaux, Houston, TX 77009 from 10 AM -2PM. Please consider donations to the SPCA in lieu of flowers.

Kaki was my best friend when we were 11-13. I moved away to South Carolina and was devastated when the accident occurred. We kept in touch over the years but lost track of each other. I have tried to find her and was finally successful, only to learn that she is gone. She was an amazing person and I am grateful that she was a part of my life.

I went to Capt. Shreve High School,graduating in the same class at Kathleen. She was such an inspiration to all of us in that class. I purchased her book "Don't Tell Me I Can't" several years ago and use it today in my class as an inspirations to my students. May God hold you her family in his loving arms as he is holding Kathleen by his side now.

I remember Kaki in the front room of the Montclair house in Sugar Creek! She had a plexiglass book holder upon which she would ask me to turn the pages of her book. She laughed and made me laugh because as soon as I would leave, she would need the page turned again, as she was such a fast reader! She has been an inspiration to me ever since I met her, and I could never forget her.

I am so thankful that I answered a little ad in the classifieds in December 1974, otherwise I would not have met Kaki and the DeSilva family, and down the line her wonderful life-long friends and her loving husband, Peter. My deepest sympathy goes out to all of you and you are in my thoughts & prayers every day. Kaki - unforgettable and irreplaceable, a uniquely bright light who continues to shine.

Kaki was an inspiration to me in how to live my life, although I can never match her inner strength. I never could fathom how she coped with her limitations from her neck injury. She seemed to live her life with grace, appreciation and determination. Such a wonderful person. She is physically free now. My best wishes to Peter and all the De Silva family.

So sorry for the death of Kathleen. My condolences to the family. I hope that the promise found at 1st Thessalonians 4 : 14 brings you comfort . Knowing that there is a future for the ones we have lost in death can be very reassuring indeed .

I remember Kathleen when she worked at TIRR as the inhouse attorney and i was working in the purchasing dept. I admired her hard work. She was a great person. My condolenses to her family.

I met Kathleen and Peter about 2 yrs ago when my daughter to work for them. What a wonderful, gracious and beautiful woman Kathleen was with such a sweet spirit. Our deepest heartfelt condolences to Peter and her family and dearest friends. God Bless!!
