Larry Steinfeld Obituary

Larry Steinfeld
1930-2015
On April 8, 2015 Larry Steinfeld, age 84, adored husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died peacefully with his loving family at his side.
Larry was born in Hameln, Germany, in 1930. He arrived in New York with his family in 1938 to escape Nazi Germany. Larry moved to Houston in 1953 and found his talent in sales, first by selling shoes and then cars which he sold for 45 years. Soon after arriving in Houston, he went to the Jewish Community Center and met a German Jewish immigrant, Ruth Krell. She had survived the Holocaust as a Hidden Child in France, but lost all of her family in the war except for one sister, Lea. Larry and Ruth were married in 1954. They had three daughters Susie, Fredda and Michelle.
In his later years, Larry was able to use his extensive WWII and Holocaust history knowledge as a docent at the Holocaust Museum Houston. He also discovered his second career and love as a substitute teacher at private schools.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Ruth, daughter Susie Aronstein, grandson Brandon Montano, granddaughter Jennifer Beleiff, her husband Brad Beleiff and great-granddaughter Madison Krell Beleiff; daughter and son-in-law Fredda and Gary Friedlander, granddaughter Allison Friedlander Feldman, her husband Freddy Feldman, great-granddaughter Millie Feldman, great-grandson Grant Feldman, grandson Stephen Friedlander, his wife Lauren Friedlander, grandson Michael Friedlander; daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Doug Bercow, grandsons Jake and Matt Bercow. Larry also adored his late sister-in-law Lea Krell Weems and nieces and nephews Judy and Mark Mucasey, their children Ariel Mucasey and Steven Becker, Evan and Marshall Mucasey; David and Jordana Markowitz, their children Ethan and Zachary Markowitz; Jeff and Yiota Markowitz, their children Alexandros and Melina Markowitz; Gary and Sunni Markowitz, their children Abbie, Brooke, and Casey Markowitz.
A Funeral Service to celebrate our Larry's life will be held April 12, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. in the Kagan-Rudy Chapel at Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet Street, Houston, TX, 77074 with Rabbi Jack Segal officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Larry's memory be made to the Holocaust Museum Houston or the Jewish Family Service.

Larry and I worked together for sReveral years and enjoyed a good relationship. We went to breakfast on many occasions and shared in great conversations. There is where I learned of his escape from Germany and his wife Ruth terrible ordeal she suffered at the hands of the Nazis. It was my pleasure to share a part of Larry's life and know what kind of man he was. Ruth if you need any assistance with any thing , do not hesitate to call.
