Leslie Miller Obituary

Leslie Butts Miller
1962-2018
Leslie Ann Butts Miller, 55, of Spring, TX died in her home shortly after noon Saturday, January 20th. She is survived by her husband, Scott Miller, her parents, Dr. Donald R. and Mrs. Joann Butts, and her brothers, sisters, in-laws and many nieces and nephews, all who love her and miss her dearly.
Leslie was born November 16, 1962 in Hermann Hospital in Houston, TX. She graduated Spring High School, class of 1981. She went on to Stephen F. Austin State University where she became a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority, took pictures for the school paper, The Pine Log, the yearbook, Stone Fort, and even an alternative student paper, The Belligerent Beacon, met and started her relationship with her future husband, and graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts.
Leslie and Scott were married June 3, 1989 at Christ the Good Shepard Catholic Church. They were able to enjoy all the weddings of all siblings, all the births of our nieces and nephews, travel together, and for nearly a year lived abroad in Kaposvár, Hungary. In a corn field in Hungary, they were able to witness the last total solar eclipse of the 20 century together.
She began her career working for Planning Research Corporation (PRC) Realty Systems. She became a Resource Specialist with the Special Education Department at Region IV Education Service Center, where she overhauled and cataloged the department's resource library of books, video tapes and other materials for special education teachers. She became Program Coordinator for The University of Houston's Center for Public Policy. While there, during a period of management transition, she was key to keeping the center from shutting operations. She also worked as a nanny, and in her final job, she was business manager of her husband's IT consulting firm.
She fought against health issues all her life. At age six, Leslie became a juvenile diabetic. On January 1st 2015 she collapsed, stricken with a rare handicapping disease, transverse myelitis. She worked hard to regain her walking ability, especially enjoying hydrotherapy with her parents in their swimming pool. At the end of June 2016, she suffered a massive heart attack, was eventually flown by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann, and was discharged home several months later. She worked hard on her rehabilitation but suffered a broken hip last April. Complications from successive surgeries severely weakened her but she was blessed to return home again last December.
She enjoyed dance and photography but her health prevented her from pursuing those interests as she had aspired. She loved God and Jesus and her family and her friends. She is missed by many.

Leslie was one of my best friends in high school. Loved her laugh! Taken too soon from family and friends but know she is happy where she is and finally dancing the way she always wanted to!

The Hanson family is very sorry to hear of Leslie's passing. Our family friendship goes back to childhood for the Hanson and Butts children. Though I haven't seen Leslie since our college years, I remember her fondly as a beautiful, sweet girl with high aspirations. My condolences to Dr. and Mrs. Butts, and all of their children and grandchildren. May God's strength and blessings be with all of you at this difficult time.

Please accept my condolences. I feel a great amount of sadness but know that we will see her once again. She was always pleasant, kind, and friendly to me. She always made me feel welcome at family gatherings. She was a good person and someone I'm honored to say was a friend.
