Lester Lothman Obituary

LESTER TRELOAR LOTHMAN, born November 14, 1918, to William Henry Lothman and Floy Treloar Lester Lothman, was tragically taken by his Maker on September 23, 2005. The grandson of German immigrants, early on he learned the value of hard work and honorable service. Serving in the Army during World War II, he was among the first to attend the Army's new Finance school. Marrying his high school sweetheart Frances Fulmer from Central High School in Tulsa, he treasured their war love letters for years afterward. Stationed in London, he excelled in his position of paymaster such that the Army asked him to write a handbook on the most efficient procedure for paying troops. After the War, he graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor's degree in accounting, and obtained his Certified Public Accountant's license. Employed then by the IRS, he became well known for conducting audits fairly. Striking out on his own, he achieved great success as a CPA, and soon could name among his clients many powerful and well-known names in Houston and Texas. He testified before Congress as an expert on various financial and accounting issues of the day. At one time, he was the CPA for more privately held telephone companies in Texas than any other. All who knew him spoke of his professionalism, his sense of honor and integrity in business and life. His wife predeceased him some years ago. His greatest joy was his family; brothers and sisters, sons and grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Along with his brother Louis, found the Ambrosia Lake uranium mine in New Mexico, described in the Time Magazine article of September 30, 1957. It still stands today as the largest uranium mine in the United States. The discovery of this mine put to rest the Cold War fears of a nation that it was vulnerable without a national source for atomic weapons. Survived by his sister Eleanor O'Dell of Fort Collins, Colorado, and a brother J. Karl of Yuma, Arizona. In Houston, with son Karl T. he was blessed with granddaughters Carol and Mellisa. With son Kurt and his wife Ilana, he was blessed with granddaughters Neon and Arielle, and grandson Joshua. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 P. M. Saturday, October 1, 2005, at Christ The King Lutheran Church, 2353 Rice Boulevard, with The Rev. Karin Liebster officiating. A Private interment for the family only will be held at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
