Mark Clark Obituary

Mark Wayne Clark
1961-2015
Mark Wayne Clark, 53, passed away March 6, 2015, with his loving wife at his side. Mark was born in Houston, Texas on May 28, 1961. He was a graduate of Pasadena High School, class of 1979. He graduated from The University of Houston in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. Mark loved being outdoors. As a child, and as a young man, he enjoyed camping at Garner State Park and fishing at Lake Sam Rayburn with his father, grandfather, friends and other family members. As an adult, he grew to love the game of golf and enjoyed the opportunity to play the game with friends. Mark was a loyal friend and was always available to those in need. His high school senior class voted him, "Most Versatile." Mark was a very involved parent and a good, productive citizen. He loved coaching his daughter and her friends in volleyball at the YMCA in Pearland. Even though he had no experience in coaching volleyball, he did so for 6 seasons and forged many friendships. Other volunteer activities included his children's schools, the Greek festival, the International Festival, various neighborhood functions, and boy scouts. He served on the Silverlake HOA board of directors and the Brazoria County MUD III Board for many years. Mark was a serious amateur athlete, running his first Houston Marathon in 1994. After 2000, he always looked forward to seeing his children waiting for him at the finish line. Mark ran whole and half marathons until 2013. He also completed the MS150 eight times. Mark enjoyed a multi-faceted career by obtaining his real estate license, working for various mortgage companies and later developed a successful online real estate company. Later, he entered the field of pharmaceutical sales. Mark had a successful sales career with Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and later, Mylan Pharmaceuticals. Never idle, his drive and strong work ethic afforded him the flexibility to balance a successful sales career with spending time with his family. Mark was a devoted and supportive husband and father and is survived by his adored wife Deonna and his treasured children: Abigail, 14, and Charles, 11. Other survivors include his sister, Darlene Clark, mother-in-law Avalon Libengood, father-in-law Larry Libengood, and countless friends and family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Cecil Clark and Carolyn "Sally" Clark. Mark is a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and the UH Alumni Association. As a active Sigma Chi undergrad, he held many offices, and after graduation, he served as Chapter Advisor and officer on the housing committee. The Sigma Chi - Epsilon Xi chapter recently honored Mark with a plaque installed at the Sigma Chi Fraternity house honoring him for his undying dedication as an Honorable Brother and Great Friend. He was an avid fan of college football and never missed a UH game. He enjoyed the camaraderie with college friends and his fraternity brothers at these games each fall. The family thanks the staff of MD Anderson and Houston Hospice for their special care and support. They also thank all their amazing friends in their Pearland neighborhood who have always been there for Mark and his family. Innumerable friends know Mark loved and supported his community, and that community is ever-present in love and support of his family. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd, Houston Texas 77030 in honor of Mark Clark. Mark's sister, Darlene Clark, will receive friends on Thursday, March 12, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. A graveside service with White Rose ceremony, will be held Friday, March 13, at 1:00pm at Forest Park Lawndale, followed by a family friendly memorial service at his home church, New Hope Church, 3640 CR 58, Manvel, Texas 77578. Mark crosses my mind all the time. My dad passed just a few days before Mark which has them both thought on often. I miss them both since I spoke to each almost every week. Mark was a dear friend that is rare in this world. My hope is that one day I'll see them both once again for being in my presence forever!

Deonna, I have no words to express my heartfelt grief for the pain that you, your children, and family are experiencing. Although everyone's experience is different, I, too, was widowed 5 years ago when my children were very young. I am so sorry that you must walk this path. Praying for peace and comfort for you and wrapping my arms around you in a virtual hug, sweet friend.
