Mary Ann Faust
1920-2015
Mary Ann Faust was born on December 25, 1920, in Kansas City, Missouri, and passed away at home in Houston, Texas, on October 15, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence E. Faust, and her parents, Dr. and Mrs. James O. Faust. Mrs. Faust was a graduate of Stephens College in Missouri and Lamar State College of Technology in Beaumont Texas. She earned her law degree at the University of Houston Law School, where she was inducted into The Order of the Barons. She was also a member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society.
Mary Ann was an employee of the Sun Oil Company for 20 years before earning her law degree. She was active in the Business and Professional Woman's Club of Beaumont during that period. She served as president of the unit and chairman of numerous committees. She was a leader in the movement which resulted in Governor John Connally signing an executive order creating the Texas Commission on the Status of Women. In the Texas Federation of BPW Clubs, she was chairman of the Women in Government Committee, and she was a speaker at workshops sponsored by the federation. On the national level, she served on the Legislative Platform Committee at the convention in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1960 she received the Woman of the Year award presented by the Business and Professional Women's Club for her many contributions and achievements. She was also invited to the White House by President John F. Kennedy during his presidency in recognition of her efforts on behalf of women.
She had a very successful career as an attorney. She was a champion for her clients and made many friends, including opposing counsel.
She is survived by her sister, Betty Jane Johnson, her nephew, James Colman Johnson, and his wife, Lorraine, two great nieces and a great nephew, 3 great- great-nieces, 2 great- great-nephews and one great-great-great nephew. She is also survived by her devoted employees, Ina Jean White, Sandra Irani, Betty Vaquerano, Judith Vaquerano, Leisi Escobar, Frances Studdard and Adriana Delgado. Mrs. Faust was a very caring and compassionate person and will be deeply missed.
Friends and family are invited to visitation on Monday, October 19, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at 12:30 PM. Both services will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy, Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079.
