Mary Lofland Obituary

MARY AILEEN LOFLAND, 79, died of a stroke April 3, 2002 in Anchorage, Alaska. She was born March 11, 1923, in Houston and graduated from Reagan High School in 1940. She attended Rice Institute and received her bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State University in 1944 and a master's in education from the University of New Mexico in 1965. She taught mathematics for almost 40 years. In Texas she taught at Robert E. Lee High School in Houston and Sam Rayburn High School, and San Jacinto Jr. College in Pasadena. After moving to Alaska in 1978, she was a professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage until retiring in 1990. Mrs. Lofland is survived by her husband, Tandy O. Lofland II of Anchorage; sons, Tandy O. Lofland III and wife Ellen W. Lofland and David W. Lofland and wife Melanie Lofland; daughters Anne Elizabeth Craig and husband Lawrance B. Craig III, and Marilyn Sue Chase and husband Richard Chase; sister Betty Ann Manning and husband Robert B. Manning; grandsons, Tandy O. Lofland IV and Brett Craig; granddaughters, Catherine Lofland, Casey Craig, Allison Chase, Caitlyn Chase, Skye Lofland and Keely Lofland. Her parents, Eleanor and Joseph Turner; a sister, Margaret Schroeder; and brother, Jack Turner, preceded her in death. Memorials may be directed to Jewel Lake Parish, 3833 Strawberry Road, Anchorage, Alaska 99502.
