Michael Ascherl Obituary

Michael J. Ascherl
07/13/1958 - 05/11/2025
Michael John Ascherl, of Rockport, Texas, passed away on May 11, 2025.
Michael was a devoted son, a loving father, and a loyal friend. He is survived by his mother, Peggy Ascherl, and his three children: Stephanie Ascherl and her husband Carlos, Andrea Karow and her husband Jackson, and his son Anthony and wife Tiffany. He was a proud grandfather to Carolina, Davenport, Alessandro, Henry, and Oliver, each of whom brought him immeasurable joy.
He is preceded in death by his father, John L. Ascherl and wife, Barbara Ascherl.
Born in Austin on July 13, 1958, Michael was raised in Bellaire, Texas, alongside his siblings Nancy Goodrich, Laura Morris, and Steven Ascherl. His childhood was filled with backyard adventures, a deep curiosity for how things worked, and a love of music that would follow him all his life.
After graduating high school, Michael enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served with distinction in the Seabees. It was there he forged lifelong friendships and developed a strong sense of discipline, service, and camaraderie.
Michael had a deep appreciation for life's simple joys. A passionate audiophile, he could often be found lost in music. He was also an avid angler, finding peace on the open water. His love for food, travel, and new experiences made him a connoisseur of cultures-interests he eagerly shared with his children, who carry forward his adventurous spirit and appreciation for the world.
In his professional life, Michael was a respected leader in international oil and gas operations, known for his sharp insight, calm leadership, and integrity. His colleagues valued his expertise, and many looked to him as a mentor.
During his retirement, Michael became an active member of the Knights of Columbus, proudly serving as financial secretary for the Rockport chapter. He especially loved cooking for their fundraising events, where his generosity and humor made a lasting impression.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Dr, Houston, TX, on May 29th at 10:30AM. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Knights of Columbus General Fund in his honor: https://www.kofc.org/secure/en/donate/index.html.
