Nancy Long Bowser, age 80, died peacefully with family by her side on November 20, 2015. Nancy was born on May 29, 1935 in Wilmington, Delaware to Darrell F. Long and Beulah Griffin Long. She graduated from Conrad High School in Wilmington, and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware in child development. Nancy also received a Master of Education degree from the University of Houston.
Nancy taught elementary grades in Delaware, Florida, Kentucky, and in the Alief Independent School District. She also served as the principal of Chambers Elementary School and Martin Elementary School AISD. After retiring from Alief, she worked for Houghton-Mifflin Book Company making presentations to teachers in Texas, Louisiana and New Mexico.
Nancy Bowser is survived by her husband of 36 years, John David Bowser, two daughters, Barbara Gervais (Tom) and Linda Bortz (Craig); three stepchildren, Jewell Borjes, John E. Bowser (Linda), and Joyce Hallaway (Michael). Grandchildren surviving Nancy are Lauren Matthies (Derek), Emily Gervais, Rachel Bortz, Caroline Johnson (Stephen), Eric Bortz, James Borjes (Shannon), Christopher Borjes, Spencer Hallaway, Rose Hallaway, and great-grandson Henry Thomas Matthies.
Nancy was a member of the Texas Elementary Principals Association, receiving the designation as the "Principal of the Year" for the 1991-1992 school year in the Region IV Education Service Center. At the Eagle's Trace Living Community, where Nancy resided the last 10 years, she was an active member of the Book Club, the Interfaith Council, a prayer group, the Parkinson's Support Group, and she participated in wellness classes.
As a devoted member of Grace Presbyterian Church, she served as a member of the Grace School Committee, and was active in the Women's Circle and a Bible Study Group.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Eagle's Trace, 14703 Eagle Vista Dr., Houston, TX on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11:00am
