Norris-a man of vision, a pioneer and a man with great charisma.Because of God and this man, people
like me have come to enjoy living the good life. The school was the very best, as it truly prepared you
for the outside world, i remember he even brought in professors from the University of Houston to teach us about etiquette and how to speak to clients, and to dress for success-and then the Salons brought us opportunities to meet the type of clients that were great for our business. He never really got praise or credit for being the first in the hair business to afford a better life for men and women-Hispanics, blacks and many others.
Sue, was always kind and helpful and made me feel welcome and part of the family. I feel truly blessed in
knowing and being part of the Norris of Houston legacy.Norris, rest in peace and may God bless your family.

My first official date with my husband of 56 years was with Norris and Lillie. In 1957 when Joe got out of the Air Force we purchased their furniture. Lots of memories of our East End days. So sorry to hear of his passing.

I got my hair cut and styled by bay (at the galleria shop) the day I got married in 1969...he did, indeed, reshape the face of hair care in the 60s and 70s...my prayers are with his family...JHH3

Norris's Dad was the first person to ever cut my hair at his Dad's shop on Lawndale. When his Dad wasn't available I would let Norris cut my hair!
My Prayers go out to his Family and Loved ones !
God Bless !

I was one of the first graduates of the Norris of Houston Barber College. He and his school gave me and so many others the opportunity to excel in life.I was working at a printing company and attending the college, when my boss found out i would be gone as soon as i got my license he told me to either work at the printing company or go to school, not both. I was destroyed because i needed money to continue school. Norris found out about my problem and called me in, asked me what i made at the print shop.I told him and he said "i'll pay you the same just continue here and help us by running to the bank or helping other students. He added 'when you graduate i want you to work for "old Norris".My first job was at the Warwick Hotel and i did celebrities like John Wayne and Andre Previn to mention a few. Later i worked at the Galleria PostOak. When i left to open my own salon,Norris said to me, Johnny if you ever need a job you'll always have one here.Norris was my mentor, my friend and i will always love and respect him. God bless his family, and Norris rest in peace

The opening of Norris in the late sixties was a memorable event in Houston, The city was a buzz with this very exclusive salon, only for men. Norris was a cutting edge barber, who raised the art of cutting hair to create an image for men that became the talk of the town. We all heard of Norris in the late sixties, and the location at the time was a mystery. We never could have dreamt that the buisiness would grow into such a wonderful salon for men and women, creating hairstyles envied by all. His eye for detail could be seen in the most recent shop, with his collection of antiques gathered during his travels across the globe. He was an icon in Houston, setting the trend for all who followed him. So sad was the ending of his life, no family and left alone to enter into eternal peace.
