Peggy Chapelle Obituary

Margaret (Peggy) H. De la Chapelle
October 20, 1928 -
October 7, 2013
After 84 blessed years of life, Peggy went to her eternal home with Jesus on October 7, 2013, in Carrollton, Texas. She was the faithful wife of Don De la Chapelle, her beloved husband of 61 years, whom she met in New York City at the age of 12. They were best friends and loved each other unconditionally their entire lives. Don preceded Peggy in death by just over 3 months, going on to his eternal home with Jesus on June 21, 2013.
Peggy was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and spent her youth on the east coast. At age 10, she began her modeling career with John Robert Powers Agency of New York. She also appeared in New York stage plays, NBC's Experimental Theatre, New York's WOR radio where she was a featured singer, and WTJV television in Miami. Peggy graduated from George Washington High School in New York City and attended Columbia University as well as the University of Miami, Florida. Peggy served as an instructor of modeling and charm courses at the University of Miami and the Patricia Vance Charm School in Chicago. Subsequently, she organized fashion shows for various charities including Hope Cottage Adoption Agency in Dallas, where she and Don adopted their two beloved children, Patty and Bill. After her fashion career, Peggy focused on raising her two children but remained creative through music and art. She was an active member of the choir at Memorial Drive Methodist Church in Houston for many years, painted in many mediums, and played the piano. She was a sentimental woman who loved God, family and friends, travelling, swimming, coffee ice cream, animals, clothes, and lots of shoes! As a breast cancer survivor, she faithfully wore pink in October to support Breast Cancer Awareness.
Peggy leaves behind a daughter, Patty Ramlet of Austin, Texas, a son and daughter in law, Bill and Karen de la Chapelle of Coppell, Texas, along with six grandchildren and a niece, Pamela Vance Bell of Tucson, Arizona, All will miss her wonderful smile, kind heart and sweet personality. She also leaves behind a brother in law, Norman de la Chapelle, along with several nieces and nephews on her husband's side of the family. Peggy is preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Vance, and nephew Charles Vance.
A memorial service will be held at Memorial Drive Methodist Church in Houston, Texas, on October 25, 2013, at 10:00am. Please wear pink to the memorial service to honor families impacted by breast cancer. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research and awareness:ww5.komen.org.

Peggy is a real winner in life and both inspired and challenged me, for which I thank God. We enjoyed trading choir tips and stories, but I never missed an opportunity to sit and listen about her fascinating life. Her busy and enthusiastic presence is greatly missed.

I helped nurse Peggy Delachappele in her last days What a beautiful and gracious lady. Also, what a beautiful and gracious attentive family. It was obvious that Bill and his sister and her family loved her very much Everything that could be done to show her love and enjoyment was done for her with great love and to make her days as joyful as possible.

I lived across the street from the Chapelle's for the lion's share of my youth. With little effort I can recall Mrs. Chapelle's unfailing kindness and the sparkling brightness of her smile. We always heard that she had been in show business of some kind. She was different from other moms, possessing the mysterious allure of past glamour. She loved her son, my friend Bill, and her daughter, Patty, who was closer to my sister's age. In my mind's eye I can see her walking with Mr. Chapelle on a Houston's eve eager to say hello whenever I visited my parents. She would always say that I "looked just great" (whether I did or not) and recalled some bygone episode with joy. Other kids parents are a foreign land to the young, but Mrs. Chapelle enjoys bright place in my memory.

My condolences to the bereaved family of Peggy. May you be comforted by reflecting on a time when those asleep in death will have the prospect of resuming life again free from all causes of death and the heartaches it brings.
