Rick Fogle Obituary

Rick Fogle, Jr.
1939-2021
Never one for fanfare or lengthy goodbyes, on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 15, 2021, Redrick Berton Fogle, Jr. ("Rick") cheerfully served up a few scoops of Blue Bell ice cream for himself and everyone else at his home, retired to his quarters as usual, and was quietly summoned to Heaven moments later.
Rick left behind his wife, the love of his life for the past sixty-one years: Linda Fogle; his four sons: Rick Fogle III and wife Margie; Gordon "Butch" Fogle and wife Deb; Alan Fogle and wife Donna; and George Fogle; Amy Fogle; Patty Fogle and many other dear friends; Eleven grandchildren: Ben Fogle and wife Sarah; Andrew Fogle and wife Elisa; Austin Fogle; Melissa Murphy; Jessica Stallard and husband Dylan; Carlton Fogle; Lucy Fogle; Dawson Fogle; Laurel Fogle; William Fogle; and Emma Grace Fogle; Brother: Bill Fogle and wife Connie; six great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was born in Alexandria, Louisiana on March 15, 1939, and was preceded in death by his parents, Redrick B. Fogle, Sr. and Ruth Murphy Fogle.
Very early on Rick developed a love for hunting and fishing. He fondly recalled many adventurous outings with his Grandpa Murphy in pursuit of most any game within the range of their gun, rod or even bow and arrow. At age eleven, Rick's parents gave him his first horse, "Champ", and so began his craze for horses that never left him. Rick played football for Tulane University as a College freshman, then transferred to Louisiana State University where he studied business. He married Linda Ladell Bennett on January 23, 1960, and soon thereafter the couple moved to Texas. Rick attended law school at University of Houston and was admitted to the State Bar in 1963.
A fiercely independent and capable businessman, Rick always charted his own course. He wore many hats while he and Linda raised their four boys. When the boys would be asked in school what their father did for a living, it was always a tricky question: One might say "he's a lawyer"; another responding "he's a banker"; a third might reply "he's a real estate investor"; and the fourth come with the answer "he's a rancher". They were all telling the truth, just not 100% sure how to categorize the man. Nevertheless, throughout his life Rick was known by those who did business with him to be a man of high integrity, credibility and sound judgment; and to the more gullible of his kin, he was known to be "the wisest man in the world."
In mid-life Rick became a born again believer and follower of Jesus Christ. Over the past several years he and Linda have thoroughly enjoyed worshipping with their beloved church family at Greenvine Baptist Church in Burton, Texas.
In the mid 1990's, Rick and Linda moved back to the quaint community of New Ulm, Texas, where so many of their fondest family memories were made in late 1960's and early 1970's. A legendary story teller, Rick, affectionately known as "Pa", spun many a tall tale at the frequent family gatherings at his home. He mainly steered clear of public social engagement, but when Rick did show up, he was charming and hilarious--the life of the party.
